Hello Neighbor is pleased to announce the COVID Emergency Relief Fund through the generous support of USA for UNHCR. Through the Fund, Hello Neighbor was able to provide an opportunity for Hello Neighbor Network members to receive an emergency grant in support of efforts to respond to unanticipated and unexpected needs of hundreds of resettled refugee families during COVID-19.

The Hello Neighbor Network is made up of eight grassroots organizations across the nation serving refugee and immigrant communities post-resettlement. Organizations in the Network could request up to $3,000 from the Fund in support of direct services to meet the basic needs of resettled refugees and asylum seekers in their service areas across the U.S.

As of September, we’ve distributed a total of $24,000 to seven organizations across the U.S. to address their community’s needs in innovative ways.

  • Soft Landing Missoula (Missoula, MT) will buy chromebooks for kids, and provide bike supplies and tune-ups as a safe and affordable method of transportation
  • Refugee Assistance Alliance (Miami, FL) will implement a virtual ESL curriculum with trained tutors for virtual learning
  • Miry’s List (Los Angeles, CA) will rent trucks to get much-needed food and childcare supplies to families across the state
  • Homes Not Borders (Washington, D.C.) will pay local women to make masks for the community and purchase chromebooks for virtual learning and resource access
  • Hearts and Homes for Refugees (Westchester County, NY) will provide materials for virtual schooling, hold a winter drive, and distribute funds directly to refugees through an emergency assistance fund
  • Heartfelt Tidbits (Southwest Ohio) will provide emergency rent costs to refugee families
  • Dwell Mobile (Mobile, Alabama) will coordinate a large-scale food distribution, pay same-language community advocates to assist families with online school portals, and replace broken technology for schooling

We look forward to sharing out about the great work our Network partners are doing in their communities. We are proud to be a part of getting these needed funds to refugee families and communities across the nation at such a challenging time.
