Have you ever wanted to build a game, but were intimidated by the complexity involved in development and design? Have no fear my friend, thirteen23 has your back! This 5-part series by Senior Developer Marc Vandehey demonstrates how simple it is to make a SpriteKit game for the iOS platform.

Here kitty, kitty…

The game is called RainCat. There is one simple premise: we want to feed a hungry cat trapped outside in the rain. Ironically our RainCat does not like rain and becomes sad when wet. To avoid feline sadness, we must be the umbrella, do our best (as an umbrella) to remain above RainCat, allowing her to eat, and ultimately be happy.

Sounds easy, right? Developing the game is easy too! All 5 lessons are listed below. All you need to get started is:

  • A Mac computer
  • Xcode 8
  • Patience, grasshopper
