Getsafe launches its Digital Health Insurance

The most rewarding thing as a founder is to create context between your company and your personal background. I grew up in a family of doctors, everybody works in healthcare. I always thought about becoming part of this ecosystem. But I went another route and preferred becoming an engineer. Today, after long hard fought months of working, I am excited to announce that we are launching the first Getsafe health insurance product. That’s how we can contribute to helping patients and making healthcare better.

Insurance, made for you

Every life is different. We want to embrace this diversity. While today’s insurance industry mainly thinks in policies and business lines, we don’t. Getsafe is neither a P&C nor health insurance brand. Technically it is all of them together. We like to think of Getsafe as a flexible life companion that reliably covers all the relevant — and often changing — risks in our members’ lives, from birth to death.

With Getsafe Health launching today (at first available exclusively for our existing members) our offering now consists of six insurance modules, that you can individually assemble to fit your personal lifestyle. And you can do so in 5 minutes, by the ease of your smartphone. How we do that? We invented a new kind of insurance policy, the Master Policy. That means you just have one, super flexible membership with us that you can customize as you like. Our health offering includes three different dental options (as dental treatments constitute the by far largest gap in German public health insurance), going from basic prevention and tooth preservation to covering full dentures.

We want to be aligned with our customers, and generally speaking, that’s how every insurance should think. That’s why we have introduced our Fair by Design insurance model back in December 2017 as first insurance player in Europe. However, the alignment doesn’t stop with the business model, that’s just the foundation.

While traditionally insurers have been rather passive, helping people pay for medical treatments and rehabilitation, being on our members smartphones gives us exciting possibilities. We can proactively engage with our members to offer preventive measures. We help and incentivise our members to stay healthy. For example, we set reminders when it’s time to have a routine care (which of course is included in our coverage). We can even help you find an appointment with the right doctor.

We develop insurance products faster

We’re on a journey to change insurance for the coming generations. And it’s not just a vision, it’s becoming a reality on a monthly basis. We’re launching a new coverage module every two to three months, also including more health related offers. For our industry, this is incredibly fast. We can do so by focusing on innovation on the product and technology side, on which we think our time and money is much better allocated than on setting up regulatory insurance licences. On the risk side, our products are underwritten by members of Munich Re Group.
