HelloSpecial Turns 1: A Year-End Review

It’s been a long, exciting year over here at HelloSpecial — and a successful one to say the least! One year ago today the very first product was auctioned off on HelloSpecial.com and we’ve come a long way since then. When we first set up shop in Amsterdam with only 3 employees, our team was unsure of how a new form of online shopping would be perceived, but we were eager to take the risk and make a splash! The idea of an e-commerce platform partnering with various sellers from around the world and selling items in the form of short, fast-paced online auctions was a new idea for the Netherlands and Belgium. But the concept brought excitement back into the world of online shopping and people quickly caught on. HelloSpecial.com soon became a go-to site to shop for home goods, jewelry, electronics, and quirky gadgets.

Fast-forward 365 days and we are now a team of 15 people! We all work hard everyday to keep the site running smoothly and make sure our customers continue to have fun. Things have changed immensely over the last 12 months — the site is available to shop in 5 different languages and we now ship to the Netherlands, Belgium, and France!

We are still going strong. Later this year, a separate marketplace section will launch on HelloSpecial.com. Our online auctions will continue to start at 1 euro, but the marketplace will give shoppers the option to purchase items at a single, fixed price. In addition to the marketplace, the site will include a seller’s hub. This will open up our platform and make it possible for anyone to become a HelloSpecial seller by allowing users to sign themselves up, upload products, maintain deals, and manage orders.
