Today is World Sleep Day — it’s an annual celebration of sleep and a day to promote good sleeping habits around the world. Here at HelloSpecial, we value a good night’s rest and want to do our part by sharing a step-by-step guide to getting the best night’s sleep of your life! You can thank us later.

Step 1 — Take a shower

Experts claim that a nighttime shower can help send you into a slumber and there’s nothing like a long hot shower to calm you down after a busy day on the job. But make sure you time it correctly. Shower earlier in the evening to give your body time to cool down again. The cool down process is what lets us know we’re ready for bed. You can even take your shower a step further by getting the water pressure just right. Try this high-pressure shower head. It features 3 pressure settings so you can choose the perfect pressure every time.

Step 2 — Drink a cup of tea

While your body cools down from your hot shower, curl up on the couch with a cup of tea. Many people claim that tea has a soothing and calming effect which allows for a more restful sleep. But don’t reach for just any tea! Many teas contain caffeine which can disrupt your sleep cycle. Instead opt for an herbal tea like chamomile or spearmint. Try heating your water with this glass electric kettle from Adler. It features an LED light for that added Zen.

Step 3 — Place a plant next to your bed

There are a number of houseplants known to promote quality sleep. The snake plant, aloe vera plant, and spider plant to name only a few. Bringing a plant with air purifying qualities into your bedroom cleanses the air of formaldehyde and can sustain oxygen levels in a room, promoting a better night’s sleep. Try this soothing set of 2 Areca palms. They are easy to care for while creating the perfect atmosphere for your slumber.

Step 4 — Get a good quality mattress

Do I really need to explain this one? If you’ve been sleeping on the same mattress for the last 8+ years then it’s time for a new one! Try this Bonnell Spring mattress. It’s just a good solid mattress. No frills necessary.

Step 5 — Sleep on clean sheets

Last but not least, did you know that it is recommended that you wash your sheets once a week? If you can’t remember the last time you washed your sheets then now is the time! Studies show that people get a more comfortable night’s sleep when they sleep on bedding with a fresh scent. So climb into a clean bed and snooze! Try switching to this duvet cover by Ten Cate. Its soft satin finish is guaranteed to bring you comfort throughout the night.
