Hello Sunday Morning is on a mission to create a more conscious, educated and healthy global drinking culture. By opening up about how we use alcohol and analysing its place in our culture we can shift the conversation to one that is empowering and honest — a culture that recognises individual choices and celebrates what the world has to offer.

To achieve this goal, we want you to share your thoughts and experiences. Submissions can be made by emailing info@hellosundaymorning.org for more information.

Content guide

As a starting point, please adhere to these guidelines:

  1. Be supportive and empathetic. While it’s worth celebrating a change in your relationship with alcohol, it’s also important not to evangelise too much or otherwise risk alienating others. Remember that this is about empowerment and individual choice. Almost everyone has bad experiences with alcohol — offer a rope that people can grab on to.
  2. Inspire. One of Hello Sunday Morning’s most important brand pillars is to be inspiring. Cultural health communication too often defaults to scare tactics, yet we know that this simply doesn’t work as well as you may expect. Having said this, we all know that changing your relationship with alcohol doesn’t tend to be a walk in the park, so it’s important to remember our third point …
  3. Be real. Let’s get it out there: changing your relationship with alcohol can be really hard work. Sometimes your body will disagree with your choices; other times our culture will try its very best to make your life difficult. It is helpful for others to hear real, human stories about the journey to changing these behaviours. No need to sugarcoat your story, unless it’s genuine.
  4. Be useful. If you are writing a piece that relies less on personal stories and more on data, science, or cultural observation, it’s important to keep in mind usefulness for your eventual readers. What can people take away from this? Should they be petitioning to some level of Government? Should they be changing the way they speak?
  5. Be thorough without writing a novel. Length can vary, but we prefer pieces of 1000–3000 words. A lot of the above has focused on experience, however, we are also open to well researched op-ed style writing if your pitch seems like a good fit.

We’re looking forward to sharing your Hello Sunday Morning journey.
