πŸ”΄ Letting Peers Guide Designs

1 Not talking to real users

Its called User Experience for a reason guys. Designing anything without talking to those who are going to use it is lust guessing.

2 Skipping analysis

It’s simple. You can’t solve the problem until you know what the problem is. Analyze the problem, support it with research and then try to solve it.

3 Rushing with interface design

Rushing with interface design stands a good chance of having a nice Dribbble post but with a terrible experience. Figma or Sketch are problem-solving tools. Please do not start with them.

4 Hooking on buzzwords

You can play buzzword bingo all the time. MVPs, Hypothesis, Lean process, Double diamond, pivots, focus groups, A/B tests, etc. Unless you can explain terms you use, avoid them.

5 Letting peers guide designs

The design should be about the most appropriate solution for a problem. And not about the opinion of your girlfriend, boss, or current Dribbble trend. Make data-informed decisions, not opinion-based decisions.

How to avoid those mistakes?

  • Always get out of the building and talk to users
  • Analyze problems and challenges, make a life of users easier
  • Do not start with problem-solving tools (Figma, Sketch, etc.)
  • Use only buzzwords you can explain and use in practice
  • Make data-informed decisions, not opinion-based

Bonus β€” tools that may be useful in your designer way:

Webflow β€” all-in-one web design tool that allows users to design, build, and launch responsive websites visually.
Flowkit β€” allows designers to create frighteningly fast user flows within Sketch and Figma.
Crello β€” the simplest online image editor. A simple but powerful tool to create awesome designs for any social media format β€” posts, covers, graphics, and posters using the best software on the web. It’s easy! A lot of animated designs.
Designmodo β€” a timesaving tool that helps create websites and email builders designed for developers, designers, marketers, and non-tech users.
LPgenerator β€” professional landing page platform for your business to generate new leads and increase sales.
Leadpages β€” lets you build beautiful, high-converting websites, unlimited landing pages, pop-up forms you can add to your other websites.
