Avoid Animating Everything

Motion design or animation is a subtle art of adding movement to enhance the dynamism of the product or video. Don’t animate each and every object on the screen. Animate only which is a part of the process or a story.

Not Expressing Continuity

Use motion to connect different objects on a screen together. Motion guides user attention in a smooth, unbroken fashion, When a UI changes appearance, motion provides continuity between the placement and appearance of elements before and after a transition.

Not Using Easing in Animations

Easing allows transitioning elements to speed up and slow down, rather than moving at a constant linear rate. In the real world, things don’t start or stop moving instantaneously. Things take time to speed up and slow down. Easing makes elements move as though influenced by natural forces like friction.

Avoid Too Fast or Too Slow Animations

Regardless of an animation’s style, transitions shouldn’t be jarringly fast or so slow that they keep the user waiting. The right combination of duration and easing produces fluid and clear motion. We will see in detail about speed in later posts.

Not Maintaining User Focus Using Animation Choreography

A good animation makes it easy to understand what has changed in a screen, if any elements were added or removed, and what’s important to know about the next interaction.
