📋 List of Rules

1️⃣ Maximise Your White Space
2️⃣ Use Microinteractions
3️⃣ Use Muted Colours
4️⃣ Light Always Come from Top
5️⃣ Creating Emphasis
6️⃣ Make it Smarter by Keeping it Simple
7️⃣ Be Consistent

1 Maximise Your White Space

Let your design breathe. Use twice the amount of a white space you would instinctively use.
White space is like a room in your home.
Do you want to have your guests in a cramped area or in a comfortable area?

2 Use Microinteractions

Let users can play with elements in your design.
Use these enjoyable elements:
• Switching on/off
• Adjusting settings preferences
• Uploading and downloading
• Notifications
• Social media sharing
• Pull-down menus
• Highlighting call-to-action

3 Use Muted Colours

If you are unsure, opt for muted colours when you and your client are considering a colour palette.

4 Light Always Come from Top

Remember, Natural light comes downwards, from the sky. The top of your design element should be lighter, and the bottom parts darker.

5 Creating Emphasis

Create a single focus point for each screen.
For example, you should use one highlighted button for each segment. So users can see easily where they should click.

6 Make it Smarter By Keeping it Simple

Don’t hide things in complexity. Users love it when they can predict certain behaviour about the design. It makes them feel smart.

7 Be Consistent

Use a design system. A familiar pattern found throughout your design is the best approach to achieve consistency.
Create your design in components and use these components throughout your design.
As consistency increases, the pain of the user decreases.
