In this post some more research methods that are less used, but are still very powerful!
🛑 User-related⠀
📍Card Sorting
On separate cards, participants name possible features, functions, or design attributes. Then, they are asked to organize the cards in ways that make sense to them. This technique helps expose people’s expectations and priorities according to their mental models of a device/system
📍Role-playing workshop
Create a scenario and have a group act it out with specific roles
📍Shadowing
Similar to observation, but the participant is followed very closely with the intention to observe and understand daily routines, interactions, and contexts.
📍Heuristics (in other words inspection)
Set of principles or rules used to evaluate the usability of graphical user interfaces, usually developed by experts in the field.
🛑Business-related
📍Expert interviews
Interviews with experts in the field (can supplement literature reviews).
📍Competitor Analysis
Compare and evaluation existing, competing technologies in terms of features, functions, and performance. Can also include a review of existing patents
📍SWOT analysis
An internal scan of strengths and weaknesses, as well as an external scan of opportunities and threats.
