Never end a client Email with ‘Let me know how I can help’ 🙅‍♂️

“Let me know how I can help.” A common phrase that we (freelancers) use on a daily basis to end our client emails. But let me tell you there’s a huge problem with this and your business is suffering from this little phrase.

When I said this I honestly thought I was being helpful. I’d close almost every email with some variation of “Just let me know…” It felt like the right way to end an email. Heck, it seemed professional.

By ending my emails like this, I was dropping a wheelbarrow full of work on my client’s desk and saying “Here. You deal with it.” But soon I learned the lesson the hard way and I began to do the complete opposite and prescribe solutions at the end of every email.

At first, this felt wrong. I felt like I was encroaching onto the client’s domain and barking orders. Could I really boss the client around and tell them what they needed to do? It was intimidating.

But I slowly started to notice a change. Clients were increasingly respondent to my emails.

Just by suggesting a next step at the end of my email, I was able to double the amount of people who responded to me.

If someone wanted a meeting, I’d suggest a time and instead of saying, “Let me know if this works for you.” I’d switch that out for, “If not, then X time/day also works or I’m free at X time/day.” Think about that. You’re not just saving yourself the extra time of writing 2 separate emails, you’re saving you (and your client) the time in between these emails.

That set the tone that my and his time was money.

So let’s end this post on a more actionable note by sharing it with your friends who could really benefit from this.
