You’re stuck inside for the next two weeks to two months depending on how things go with COVID-19. Some people and places are forced to be in quarantine while others are just highly suggested to be.
There’s been one case in my county so far and we heard of it two days ago. Far before that people were already practicing social distancing. In fact, two weeks ago, when the disease first came to the US, businesses in my city of Joplin, Missouri were already closing up shop in preparation.
Just because you can’t work doesn’t mean you can’t be productive while you’re at home during quarantine! Let’s talk about five productive things you can do while quarantined.
#1 Start A Side Hustle
No work means no money; at least for right now. There have been talks from the federal government about bailouts for certain industries that are hit the hardest. There have also been talks about giving relief funds to people through checks.
People may not be shopping in person; however, online shopping is not only still functioning but growing faster than ever. People need supplies but still want things like clothing, shoes, books, games, and anything to keep them entertained.
It’s a perfect time to start a side hustle online. It doesn’t matter what it is as long as you have a strong passion for it. Start streaming on Twitch or making YouTube videos. Other options could be learning to create a mobile phone app or starting a Shopify store to sell something you like. If you’d like to talk further about apps or creating a website we can help! Let’s set up a free meeting to talk about ideas.
You could also see about getting some freelance work online for things like graphic design, video editing, writing, and much more. If you want to get started freelance writing here’s a good video to help you out.
Another option could be driving for delivery services like Postmates. They pay well and if you’re not making income from work it could be a great option. They’re not going anywhere anytime soon. People are still ordering meals online and their groceries online. Postmates delivers both.
#2 Learn Something
Everyone has things they’re passionate about and would like to learn more about. There’s no time like the present while we are all locked up inside to start learning something new or dive deeper into something you already know.
Make yourself more knowledgable around a certain topic so you can start making money with it. Or making more money with it.
It doesn’t have to be something to make money though. Self-improvement is always a good option too. Learn another language using Memrise. Read self-help books. A few of my favorites include
- 6 Months to 6 Figures by Peter Voogd
- Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
- The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod
- The Ten Roads to Riches by Kenneth Fisher
Those were all topics that interested me in the past. I’ve always wanted to create my own business and grow it into something amazing. I’m trying to do that right now with my marketing agency. Waking up early is another topic that interests me. That book by Hal Elrod is very helpful at getting you up and going in the morning.
Find something you’re passionate about or just want to improve upon in your life and find a book for it. It will help you stay productive during the quarantine.
#3 Start A Workout Routine
It’s important to stay healthy and fit during the quarantine. All the gyms in my town are closed so all I can do is workout at my house or I guess the office. I usually work out six or seven times a week.
No pain, no gain, now shut up and train
Set yourself apart and commit to working out often during the quarantine. Not only does it help you stay in shape it also boosts your immune system which can reduce your chances of catching the coronavirus.
I personally use Shred to workout. It’s not a free app but it allows you to customize workouts as much as you want. For example, I don’t have any machines or weights at home so I can set it to a 20-minute workout using just my body weight. Full disclosure, I’m not sponsored or affiliated with Shred in any way other than the fact that I use the app and like it a lot.
#4 Create Something
While this is similar to #1 it lacks the money-making aspect. You’re stuck inside with nothing else to do. Be creative. Humans are naturally creative beings. Start making something you’re passionate about for fun and practice. Who knows, it may turn into a side hustle or even a full-time job.
This could be an array of things
- YouTube Channel
- Write a book
- Make an Instagram account for your art
Keep in mind, all these creations are still productive because they have a chance to become more than just a hobby or passion. What can you start creating that has the potential to grow into something more? Start doing it as soon as you can to take advantage of the massive number of people online due to the quarantine!
#5 Plan & Optimize
Another great way to remain productive is to optimize and plan aspects of your life out. If you can expiate the mundane things in your life it will help you get through the boring stuff so you can get to what you love.
For example, plan out your morning routine. I have a morning routine that’s all planned out. It helps me tackle the tiny tasks I need to get done before I leave the house to go to the office.
- Wake up
- Brush my teeth (& now take vitamin C)
- Chinese lesson
- I work until noon (Hardest tasks for the day tackled early)
- Make food & eat at noon
After that, I usually work from home more or go to my office and finish the day out there.
Doing something like this will help you glide from one task to another to get small tasks out of the way much faster. I use the app Habit app. It’s a great way to track what you’re doing day by day. I have all those things I mentioned above in there and I do them in order usually. I also do this with food. I eat the same things on the same day every week. My meals are planned out.
What can you optimize and plan out in your life to make things flow better?
Find a few things and try to make them better!
Wrapping It Up
Don’t let yourself get lazy while you’re in quarantine! Stay productive and start implementing life-changing tasks to your everyday life. Doing these things will help you focus, stay busy and productive, and help with many other things during this quarantine.
