TONI TALKS | THE BIG DRAW | CREATIVITY UNLEASHED
Make A Moniker
Choosing a writing alias is a subtle art form that sets you apart by silently speaking volumes to a viewer’s subconscious mind
From 2019 through early 2023, my profile was attached to my given name, Toni Greathouse. Shifting to the moniker Toni The Talker was intentional. It was created to be a distinct virtual persona. It’s the first step in a multi-layered social media strategy linked to a caricatured avatar.
Your moniker should say something that serves as an extension of your personality. The reason to develop it is ease of recognition in a reader’s mind. It should also resonate with your target audience.
Follow the steps below to simplify the process. An informational investigation into what makes you tick is an excellent place to start.
Every answer may not be applicable for end use. It represents my steps to find the perfect moniker that matches my motor mouth.
1. Contextual Identification
Make a list. Start with your initials. Move to personality traits. Add physical attributes, i.e.habits, and mannerisms. Expand on hobbies, interests, and passions.
2. Consider Goals and Aspirations
Think about future ambitions or how you might use your moniker to establish a solid social media presence.
3. Essential Elements
Reflect on significant dates linked to where you’ve been and are now. Award-winning activities say a lot about your capacity and capabilities.
4. Word Play + Creative Alchemy
Have fun with alliteration, abbreviations, aphorisms, and acronyms. Rhyming words add whimsy. A hint of color is an unexpected twist. If you truly want to trigger feelings in a reader… choose a color. They are so underrated because colors exert a powerful influence.
5. Fly Your Freak Flag
Explore expressions of your unique character. Do you have an exotic flair? Delve into the quirky or obscure aspects of your personality. Highlight everything that makes you stand out.
6. Motivational Message
Add depth of meaning by inspiring readers with a turn of phrase. My daughter’s moniker, BGREAT, exerts conveys an aspirational message.
7. Blended Aesthetic Eclecticism (made-up term)
Mix, match, and marry answers from the preceding steps in ways that specifically speak to the multi-layered aspects of yourself.
8. Ask for Feedback
Refine your choices by fielding the opinions of people who know you.
9. Litmus Test
Introduce your moniker on different social media platforms. Gauge and track the results.
10. Next Level
Your moniker should evolve. Change is the only constant in life. Adapt it as you expand on your skills and interests.
