The Pace Gallery in Palo Alto recently opened the exhibit, “Seeing Picasso: Maker of the Modern,” a chronological display of Pablo Picasso’s works. Hemi Ventures, partnering with Pace Gallery, invited tech rebels from our closest circle of investors, partners and founders to join the artistic convention. Behind this priceless exhibit, valued for over a half-billion dollars, Hemi’s founders, strategic partners, and tech rebels gathered to celebrate Picasso’s artistic rebellion.

“Seeing Picasso” is the Pace Gallery’s eighth dedicated Picasso exhibition and the first monographic Picasso exhibition of its kind to be showcased in the Bay Area. Picasso himself was considered a rebel in the art world, once saying, “Others have seen what is and asked why. I have seen what could be and asked why not.” As an artist and a rebel, Picasso was endlessly inventive, making each of his pieces truly unique. Although Picasso returned to certain themes or styles, each time he took a new approach and never repeated himself.

“Others have seen what is and asked why. I have seen what could be and asked why not.” — Pablo Picasso

“He never repeated himself twice.” — Ruiz-Picasso

While art enthusiasts like to think they know Picasso, the exhibit proves that he was continually pushing boundaries and reinventing himself as an artist. Picasso had an incredible ability to evolve and incorporate what was happening in the world and his life into his art, making it difficult to define him as an artist.

Pablo Picasso was an artistic rebel whose work raises all sorts of questions about modernism. Just as Picasso’s innovative practice radically altered the trajectory of art, Hemi’s rebel entrepreneurs are building rising technologies that will reform industries.
