CBD 101: How does CBD help with anxiety?

I didn’t expect to be able to get CBD in my Bed-Stuy bodega. When I heard Transplant Timmy order his vegan chopped cheese then grab a bottle of CBD-infused sparkling water, I knew the CBD industry had really blown up. I was relieved that I had CBD literally around the corner. On any given day in New York, I can find at least six brick-and-mortar retailers, in case I need to take an emergency hit of that THC-free good green.

CBD is everywhere, but no one seems to know exactly what it is. With all the myths, the raids, the rave reviews, what’s behind the hype? In a series of blog posts filed under CBD 101, we at Team Hempbase will attempt to answer all of your burning questions about our star ingredient: Cannabidiol.

Cannabidiol, often abbreviated CBD, is a magical chemical commonly found in both the cannabis and hemp plants. 2018’s Farm Bill makes CBD derived from hemp legal to sell. This mighty chemical is responsible for a whole industry that made $350 million in 2017. The CBD industry is projected to make over a billion dollars in 2020. Cannabidiol has been scientifically proven to help with anxiety, depression, inflammation, neural degeneration, and more.

The most common reason people use CBD is to help with anxiety and depression. Anxiety and depression can be caused by irregular levels of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that contributes to our happiness and wellbeing. Serotonin receptors (or 5-HT1A) help send signals back to our brains, but dietary restrictions, stress levels and other factors can stop our serotonin receptors from securing the bag. Serotonin levels can decrease over time, and serotonin receptors sometimes don’t catch all the serotonin they’re supposed to send all over the body.

CBD and 5HT1A go hand-in-hand like perfectly matched puzzle pieces. CBD helps the serotonin receptors work harder to send more happy juice throughout your body. Besides elevating mood and relieving anxiety, heightened serotonin levels also regulate bowel functions and nausea. That’s why you typically feel a whole-body calm when your CBD hits.

The temper-cooling, day-brightening, joy-sparking magic felt in each of our Vape Pens comes directly from the J. Lo of plants: the indisputable, multi-talented, ever youthful Hemp. Hemp and Weed (the word “marijuana” has racist origins, so we’re gonna just go ahead and stop using that) both fall under the Cannabis umbrella. The main difference between the two is that Hemp does not contain THC, which causes the groggy high typically associated with ingesting Weed.

Both Hemp and Weed share similar terpenes, natural compounds that change the taste and effects of different strains. Terpenes are found in all plants, but the unique blend of terpenes in each Hemp or Weed strain make all the difference. If you combine different terpenes with CBD, you can amplify and perplex the effects. Think about how much more delicious steak tastes with salt, rosemary, thyme and butter, rather than just one seasoning. Terpene blends need to be expertly created for maximum effects.

Our Vape Pens, for example, use CBD isolate mixed with the highest caliber of terpene blends to create delicious, euphoric, long-lasting effects. Our Mimosa Vape Pen is perfect for catching your breath after an upbeat Cardi-B-themed cycling class and winding down after getting into a heated Twitter feud about legalizing weed with some dude wearing a MAGA hat on their profile pic. The Mimosa Vape Pen’s relaxing effects are thanks to two terpenes called Linalool and D-Limonene.

Linalool relaxes the mind and body. This terpene is also found in lavender, and it lends its floral taste and cooling properties to our Mimosa Vape Pen. D-Limonene, on the other hand, is found in citruses like lemons, oranges, and grapefruits. It also elevates your mood and soothes inflammation, in the same way a hot cup of lemon water soothes your throat and relaxes your mind when you’re sick.

The science behind why CBD is so effective is pretty complex, but don’t worry, fam, we got you. We mastered and tested different iterations of each of our Vape Pens until we finally arrived at the perfect blend of top-shelf terpenes for every need. Find out more about our line of premier Vape Pens on our website. Our Vape Pens are also available at select stockists, and online at Liiv Organics and Eaze Wellness.
