Kicking off on September 9th is Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori (or Māori Language Week) — and 2019 is looking like it might be the biggest celebration yet!

Some of Aotearoa’s favourite artists have come together to sing their biggest songs in Te Reo Māori, which will be released together on an album WAIATA / ANTHEMS.

It was initially meant to be a bilingual album, but the artists wanted to do it all in Māori. Only one is a fluent speaker, so for most of them this was their first real opportunity to sing in Māori.

“It is testimony to how important they each view Te Reo Māori as the cornerstone of our culture. This music will help us all to feel like we can participate and celebrate in the uniqueness of our national identity.”

Waiata /Anthems is available for pre-order now.
