It’s an album which is the culmination of J.Cole’s idea to invite all the artists he fucks with, lockdown and record an album in 10 days. ROTD III features many different sounds and gives each artist on this album a chance to shine.

The positives:

The major positive of this album is that it has a sound for everyone, if you like any of Dreamville’s core artists then you will definitely like this album, with tracks that focus on many of their sounds. The feature list on this album is also no joke with features from Kendrick Lamar, Vince Staples, Reason, T.I, Ty Dolla $ign, Ski Mask the Slump God and more. Even with a star-studded cast ROTD III really gives the smaller artists which you may not have heard of the limelight. For example, the track Lambo Truck was a standout, featuring 3 artists that many may be less familiar with, rapping about robbing their label heads. The Revenge Documentary that dropped on YouTube beforehand also added to the experience of the album, seeing the good vibes in the creative process really translated to the music.

The negatives:

My only critiques of the album are very minor. Firstly, I really expected more from the beat selection. With all the producers that were a part of this album, I expected some craziness. The beats on the album were likeable but were incredibly basic in terms of structure. Also, I felt like Middle Child didn’t really have a place on the album, seeing as the rest of ROTD III was a collaborative effort and this track only features Cole.

If you haven’t checked out ROTD III yet I definitely would recommend as there’s surely a couple of tracks in here that you’ll want to add to your playlist. This album really does have a sound for everyone with some boom-bap, soul, trap influences and more. You might even find your next favourite artist on this album as there are a lot more features on it than what we have listed in this review.

Fav Tracks: Lambo Truck, Wells Fargo, Sacrifices, 1993
