Eminem surprised the world yesterday dropping a new album titled Kamikaze with no notice. After a very disappointing reception to his last album Revival, Eminem gives no fucks on this latest project, taking shots at everyone in the hip-hop game; from Migos to Drake, Tyler, the Creator, Joe Budden and Charlamagne. Em’ returns to his classic Slim Shady form to remind us why he might just be the greatest rapper to ever do it.

Slim Shady Returns:

It feels so good to say Slim Shady is back, with his classic fast flow, mentally unstable lines and boom bap beats. Dr. Dre really killed it on this album too; the instrumentals were outstanding, but what do you expect from an A1 producer like Dre? On this project Eminem continues to wage war on ‘wack rappers’ similar to the track Chloraseptic on his 2017 project Revival.

“If you ain’t Joyner, if you ain’t Kendrick or Cole or Sean then you’re a goner”

Eminem continues his argument that the most prominent rap acts in todays scene have no skill, speaking about ghost writing and the mumble rap flow, but in the comedic way only he can pull off. He parodies the Migos’ Bad & Boujee hook and samples Drake’s Look Alive on the track Not Alike. He even parodies Kendrick Lamar’s Humble on the track Greatest.

Name calls:

Apart from the parodies, Eminem directly name drops Lil Pump, Lil Xan, Lil Wayne, and even Tyler, the Creator who he tastelessly calls ‘faggot’. Shady doesn’t stop there though, he goes further, basically calling out the haters for not being intelligent enough to enjoy Revival:

“Maybe the vocals shoulda been auto-tuned, and you woulda bought it, But sayin’ I no longer got it, ’cause you missed the line and never caught it ’Cause it went over your head, because you’re too stupid to get it”.

There weren’t very many negative takeaways on the album, the only one I really have at the moment is is the vocals on the pre-chorus for Stepping Stone.

If there’s one thing to take away from this album, it’s that Eminem is mad upset that people that didn’t enjoy Revival but continue to listen to these ‘wack mumble-rappers’. In saying that, this album is everything we originally wanted from Revival. Eminem reminds us why he’s referred to as one of the greatest, so if you like his classic stuff then go peep.
