UPDATED: Es Devlin has confirmed she did not design the stage for Kids See Ghosts. She did post on Instagram saying “I did not design the recent Kids See Ghosts performance: I worked with Lorde on the design for her Coachella performance : I admire both and see no imitation at work here.”

ORIGINAL STORY: New Zealand music icon Lorde has taken to Instagram accusing Kanye West and Kid Cudi of stealing their Camp Flog Gnaw stage design from her.

She posted a series of images on her story, first of her own stage design, then of West and Cudi’s.

The last image of the story included the message; “I’m proud of the work I do and it’s flattering when other artists feel inspired by it, to the extent that they choose to try it on themselves. But don’t steal — not from women or anyone else — not in 2018 or ever.”

The problem with these accusations is that Es Devlin, the artist who designed this staging for Lorde, has worked with Kanye on his stage design since 2006.

It hasn’t been confirmed, but the likelihood that the Kids See Ghosts staging was designed by Es Devlin is extremely high.

In the Abstract Netflix documentary, Es Devlin says specifically that she loves working with boxes, and it’s a theme that appears across all her work.

Reddit user u/goldistress put it well; “They both share a stage designer who is allowed to have her own style which may be represented in multiple commissioned jobs because this is how art works.”

Oh and there’s also this…

Kanye in 2014, Lorde in 2017.

It appears our national treasure Lorde might just be in the wrong on this one.
