This month in viral videos, it’s not all about cute cats; MSI Madagascar’s new music video is making waves with a message of women’s empowerment.
The video was created to raise awareness of MSI Madagascar’s MS Ladies, nurses and midwives who provide reproductive advice and healthcare in their communities. It features the country’s most popular singer, Tence Mena. As of last week, the music video had reached nearly 40,000 individuals, showing how effective using media and radio in Madagascar can be to reach a wider audience.
The song’s lyrics are an anthem to our MS Ladies, who provide contraception and lifesaving care after unsafe abortions wherever they are needed. MS Ladies visit clients at home and even reach remote communities near national parks and conservation areas. In these areas, which are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of the climate crisis, contraceptive services are especially important. Access to reproductive healthcare makes women and their communities more resilient, allowing them to control their own futures despite unstable environments. But programs like these are at risk of being defunded, making it harder for women to control their sexual health and lives.
