As Thanksgiving approaches and we focus on our families and those we love, it is also a moment for reflection on those beyond our immediate circle who inspire us and for whom we give thanks. I’d like to take a moment to say a special thank you for your support and generosity this year.

In my role as President of MSI-US, I see the many ways in which our large and diverse community of supporters keeps our organization strong despite the setback of the Global Gag Rule — and it has me feeling truly grateful.

As you know, MSI works tirelessly to ensure vulnerable women and girls in 37 countries worldwide can access quality contraception and safe abortion. Our work gives them choice and the freedom to write their own futures. In this work, we are bolstered by our community of donors, partners, advocates, courageous service providers, policy-changers and more.

Two weeks ago, I was inspired and reinvigorated by our event hosted at the Embassy of Canada in Washington, DC, on the role of contraception and safe abortion in transforming women’s lives and changing the world. Our Country Director for Uganda, Dr. Carole Sekimpi, beautifully illustrated the power of this work. When a woman has access to contraception, Carole said, she controls her future. She can complete her education, pursue a career, run her own business, and take care of the children she already has. It is, in a word, life-changing. When asked what inspired her most, Carole said: “the relief and smiles on women’s faces when they leave our centers remind me why I love this job.”

Thanks to you, more women and adolescent girls are having children by choice, not chance. Together we are changing lives and having a lasting impact.

On behalf of the entire MSI-US team, thank you so very much for your steadfast support. Have a very happy and peaceful Thanksgiving.
