Week 3 in the WNBA was full of exciting action. On June 7, all three road teams won by scoring 88 points each. Many games went down to the wire, with five games being won by five points or less. Throughout all of the week 3 drama on the court, these players really made their marks in the stat sheet.

Alysha Clark: 1.51 Points Per Scoring Attempt

Chris Poss

Alysha Clark can score from almost anywhere on the floor, and she averaged 1.51 points per scoring attempt in week 3. She is almost automatic from the free throw line and proved that this week. Clark had her best game of the season when her Seattle Storm faced the Los Angeles Sparks. She knocked down all eight of her free throws and made each of her three two-point attempts. She also hit one of her two attempts from the three-point line.

Her free throw shooting was unsurprising as she’s shooting an incredible 95% from the line on the season. That puts her in the top five for free throw shooting for players who have attempted at least 15 free throws. Her points per scoring attempt and shooting numbers weren’t the only stats to stand out either. She recorded a career-high five steals against the Sparks and then went on to pull down eight rebounds against the Atlanta Dream in the following game. Overall, Clark had a well-rounded week highlighted by her efficient scoring.

Sylvia Fowles: 22.8% Offensive Rebound Rate

Chris Poss

There’s really only one word for Sylvia Fowles’ rebounding performance in week 3: dominant. In the Minnesota Lynx center’s first game of the week, she grabbed twelve rebounds against the Washington Mystics. A whopping eight of those twelve rebounds were on the offensive glass.

When the Lynx traveled to Connecticut to face the Sun for their next game, Fowles put up numbers that were just as impressive. She came down with fourteen total rebounds for the game including five offensive boards. That brought her offensive rebounding rate up to 22.8%, meaning that she pulled down almost a quarter of Minnesota’s misses while she was on the floor. This really shouldn’t come as a surprise, however, as Fowles has recorded double-digit rebounding totals in seven of her nine total games this season.

Her offensive rebounding rate was the best in the league among players with at least 100 possessions this week while her defensive rebounding rate of 24.1% was in the top five. Fowles also leads the league for the season with an offensive rebounding rate of 15.8% and doesn’t seem like she’s going to be slowing down any time soon.

Brittney Griner: 9.3% Block Rate

Barry Gossage

Heading into her sixth WNBA season, Brittney Griner has never averaged less than 2.5 blocks per game in a season. Driving into the lane with Griner defending the rim has always been a risky bet. She’s showing that again this season. With three games on the schedule this past week, Griner had her best defensive performance of the season so far when the Phoenix Mercury hosted the Las Vegas Aces. She swatted seven shots, helping the Mercury hold the Aces to only 32.4% shooting from the floor.

In her two other games in week 3, she had three blocks and two blocks against the New York Liberty and the Chicago Sky respectively. She also had one steal in each game this week. Her block rate of 9.3% this week brings her season total up to 7.1% on the year.
