Usually when we recap a week in the WNBA at Her Hoop Stats, we look at a player or team’s statistics for the whole week. This week, however, there were a few single game standouts that absolutely have to be mentioned. In addition to Kia Nurse’s efficient scoring for the whole week, we’ll talk about Liz Cambage’s dominant performance (you know the one), as well as Courtney Vandersloot’s triple-double. Let’s break it down.

Kia Nurse: 1.63 points per scoring attempt

Kia Nurse and the New York Liberty have definitely had bumps in the road this season. The Liberty currently sit at 7–17 and are in the midst of a three-game losing skid. Nurse, however, really stepped it up this week, averaging 1.63 points per scoring attempt. After averaging two points the week before, Nurse averaged 13.7 points per game this week. Her best game came against the Dallas Wings when she scored 25 points in only 26.

She dropped in four three-pointers and nailed all seven of her free throws, leading to her second-highest scoring output of the season. Had this not been the game that Dallas Wings star Liz Cambage broke the WNBA single game scoring record, Nurse’s great night would probably have been a much bigger story.

Liz Cambage: 88 points in two games

Liz Cambage dropped 53 points against the New York Liberty. Then she turned around and put up 35 points against the Washington Mystics in her very next game. This gave her both the WNBA record for single game scoring as well as two-game scoring output. But she wasn’t just a scoring machine; she had a double-double in both of these games and swatted five shots against the Liberty.

Her 1.83 points per scoring attempt for the game demonstrate her incredible efficiency, and she also had a defensive rebound rate of 31%. She did all of this without committing a single turnover. In the Wings’ following game, she had another great scoring performance and scored one point per minute she was on the court. Her rebounding was even better as she grabbed 17 boards. The Wings dropped their next two games but are looking to get back on track this week when the face the Chicago Sky for their first game of the week.

Courtney Vandersloot: 13 points, 15 assists, 10 rebounds

Against the Dallas Wings this past Friday, Courtney Vandersloot became the seventh WNBA player to record a triple-double. She averaged 1.96 points per scoring attempt for the game as she shot 80% from the floor, nailed two three-pointers, and hit three of her four free throws.

Her 15 assists were a season and career high for her while her 10 rebounds gave her her highest rebounding total for the season. This was her fourth game of the season with at least 10 assists, and she did it again in the Sky’s following game when she had 10.
