Congratulations! If you’re reading this, you’ve made it to the most pivotal moment of FAMU Homecoming Week, Top Flite Wednesday. TBH this is when the party really starts. Most folks are just getting in town and are ready to blow off some steam during Top Flite’s 2–4–1 Happy Hour and infamous Karaoke Night. Bring on the bad karaoke, drunk professors and heavy handed bartenders!

Not so fast! From this point forward it’s all about strategy. You NEED the right ratio of food to alcohol to avoid tapping out early and waking up with an epic hangover. Remember, you still have the whole weekend ahead of you.

Let’s fast forward to the end of the night. Once the house lights come on, it’s time to stumble out(read: gracefully leave the party)and find your next move. If that next move doesn’t involve carbs, something fried, something greasy or all of the above, you’re doing it wrong AND you’re gonna be in for a rough morning.

Listed below are our favorite places to soak up all the Long Islands, bottles of champagne, and random Hennessy shots swimming around in our stomachs after a night of partying in the 850.

Top Flite Club — 623 Osceola St.

Hours: Wed. 6pm-12am, Fri. & Sat. 8:30pm-2am

Price Range: $10–20

“I can’t remember who put me on but if you’ve never had the fried chicken wings or fried fish from here, please fix that ASAP! They’re both fried in the same amazing crispy, golden batter and served with hot sauce on the side. If you find yourself between Long Island #1 and Long Island #2, first of all, God bless. Second, GET THE CHICKEN WINGS!”

Chubby’s Chicken Fingers & More — 534 W Tennessee St.

Hours: Wed,Thu,Fri,Sat 10am-4am

Price range: $6 — $15

“My go-to is the classic Chubby box ($6.74), which includes four jumbo chicken fingers, fries, garlic bread and choice of dipping sauce (I always get the Honey Buffalo BBQ sauce). Over the last two years, I’ve traveled to four different countries and still haven’t found a late night food spot that offers mouth watering chicken fingers like Chubby’s. This is a Tallahassee gem to me; fast, reliable and high quality food for under $10 for most items! I always go here after a night out because they stay open until 4am on weekends.”

“My go to order is five of their buffalo honey bbq wings and a Cuban chop. Their wings have the perfect combination of sweet and spicy and they are a decent size. The chop box is what all the cool kids order when they go there. I love the Cuban chop because it comes with beans and lettuce…I get to pretend I’m being healthy.”

Waffle House — 1939 W Tennessee St.

Hours: 24hrs

Price Range: $.50-$11

“As a southern girl living in a northern world I cannot WAIT to get back to Tallahassee to grab an All Star Special. Waffle. Bacon. Scrambled Eggs. Hash browns or grits and some raisin toast to carb load like a runner. This is the ultimate late night meal because all of this will help soak up the libations you indulged in throughout the day. PLUS, Waffle House after any party has the best entertainment in the city !! #whathangover”

Guthrie’s — 1818 W Tennessee St. or 2550 N Monroe St.

Hours: Mon., Tues., Thurs., Fri. 10:30 am — 4 am (3 am on Sundays, Closed Saturdays)

Price Range: $0.99-$18.57

“Some call it the original Zaxby’s, others dare say it’s better! I just want to know are we heading there after The Moon? Because I gots to get my chicken box! Two locations in Tallahassee but the one you’ll likely end up going to is located on the Tennessee strip. Head west on Tennessee Street and you’ll see it almost directly across the street from Chick-Fil-A.”

Brooklyn Pizza — 2035 W Pensacola St.

Hours: Mon., Tues.,Thurs.-Sun 11:30am-12am

Price Range: $3 slice $15 Pie

“Brooklyn pizza got me through many many MANY nights in college. It’s located right around the corner from the strip near FSU. The owner is a complete therapist, he will listen to all your drunken spells and he is fresh off the Sicilian Yankee boat. The experience is just as delicious as the pizza ! I recommend the Pineapple and Bacon slice and a Cheese slice!! Eat the Pineapple slice first then chill out with the Cheese. :)”
