Since the holiday shopping season kicks off as soon as we get up from the Thanksgiving dinner table, our minds are on the businesses that are doing more than just pushing a product or selling a service.

Each month, we’ve decided to highlight a business on a mission to make an impact while also making money. Check out our first installment of our “Bout’ Her Business” series below!

Pet Concierge (located in Detroit) — Lauren Richardson — Online Store

Lauren L. Richardson is the Founder and Top Dog of Pet Concierge. She started Pet Concierge with one person in mind; the millennial dog owner. Pet Concierge is a full service dog care business. They provide services such as, walking your dog midday, providing your dog dinner and they also can pick up dog food if it slips your mind. Pet Concierge is the only business that can cater to every single pet need you might have in one place.

Entrepreneur-ism has always been a part of the Richardson family business. Her grand-dad owned a party store then a hair and nails business, and her dad owns a chemical management company. Lauren worked for her father’s company for 2 years and I realized she was terrible at her job. Resulting in her father putting her on “administrative leave”. But Lauren says that was the best thing he has ever done for her.

After feeling stuck and depressed in a career that wasn’t satisfying, she enrolled in career counseling, and from there she discovered her passion was animals. Following the desire within her to learn more about animals, she enrolled in veterinary school, worked in a boarding facility, veterinary hospital, grooming facility and after school worked in Michigan’s largest animal rescue; Michigan Humane Society. From that point, she had clear direction from her experiences and followed her passion and created Pet Concierge.
