Lately, Ye has been in the press for his outrageous rants that follow consistent themes of Trump support and the recent bullying he’s been experiencing.

When Ye made his appearance on SNL he went on a tangent during his performance about being bullied backstage for wanting to wear his MAGA hat and speak his mind freely. I couldn’t help but admire the musical genius during this because at first I honestly thought it was a part of the song until Ye started to talk about the bullying he experienced. He was playing the victim. This was a new role for him. He stated that the MAGA hat was his superman cape. I desperately needed him to elaborate on that

Then I watched his visit to the White House several times and read the transcript. It all started to click. As I read the transcript Ye’s erratic speech became even more obvious. Donnie couldn’t even keep up with Ye’s rant and he’s the king of dancing around topics. He denied having bipolar disorder and claimed that he was just extremely sleep deprived. Ye also elaborated on the Superman cape aka MAGA hat. He said that it provides him a sense of confidence as a man that grew up without a father. He goes on to reveal his IQ test scores to show off his intelligence and compares it to a Freud/Tesla level. Not for one second did I think Ye was unintelligent, but when he made this statement it definitely sparked some thoughts. There were several displays of insecurities and desperation for love and approval here.

Then cue the epic mind control video. This is when I finally decided to “un-cancel” Kanye and leave him in limbo. He starts off with saying every time someone tells him what to do it makes him feel like they are touching his brain. Every Ye announcement is accompanied by a crazy attention getter. He rants on and off about how Sony needs to let him buy his publishing and then states that the spirits of several great artist flow through him. Ye proclaims that he is the greatest rapper of all time and contrary to popular opinion on social media everybody loves Ye.

After watching all of these videos numerous times I honestly think Kanye’s heart is in the right place for some of the things he’s said. He wants factories back in the Midwest, he wants schools to develop new teaching techniques, and he wants people to be less caught up in opinions on social media. It’s really his delivery and his love for Donald that I’m at war with, but Kanye has always been the contrary guy.

I’m more concerned that his insecurities and lack of parental figures seem to be the driving force behind all his outbursts. I have to remind myself that Ye comes from the generation that didn’t grow up with social media. He’s now starting to really experience what it’s like to be famous in a world where everyone and their mom can voice an opinion about you without being published by a major publication. I think that he is exhibiting signs of mental illness and unfortunately it’s happening on front street. The internet is forever.

Now that I’ve had time to reflect on his current actions I’m not all that surprised. We know that it’s been a slow build up since 808s & Heartbreak. It just makes me sad to see one of my top five descend like this.

I’m sure by the time you read this Kanye will have already dropped another bomb and all of this will either be more significant or completely irrelevant, because that’s Ye’s style. We are perpetually on our toes waiting to see and hear his next move, but all things considered, he is still one of music’s greatest curators.
