Why should abortions be legalized?
We believe that abortion is murder and no woman should be doing that to her own child. We believe that abortion should not be legalized because killing a baby is evil. We judge women who had an abortion without even knowing the reasons behind their choices. But we forget that sometimes abortion is the only one optimal choice for a woman, the only tool she can use to prevent something she is not ready for. Thus every woman should be given that choice.
First of all, before calling it murder you should know that during the first 3 weeks a fetus is not legally or scientifically a person or human being. It also has no self-awareness or consciousness, thus getting an abortion cannot be considered as taking somebody’s life. I agree that from the moral prospective abortion is not a normal thing to do and nobody says it is normal. The concept of abortion itself is wrong and I do agree with that too. But don’t you think sometimes it is not about doing a right or wrong thing, but it is about making an important decision in favor of your future, financial stability, physical and mental health. Thus I believe that abortions should be provided without any restrictions if it is done within 3 weeks after getting pregnant.
Let’s focus on the reasons why some women want to get an abortion.
I am not talking about teenage girls who just cannot control their sexual life and preserve themselves enough. They should be taught and explained that pregnancy is not a joke. They should understand that there is a punishment for those who do not take a possibility of getting pregnant seriously. But even in those cases they should be given an opportunity to decide.
Then what about women with health or financial problems? Some people say that pregnant women should take a risk and give a birth no matter what. However, giving a birth when you may have to sacrifice your own life is not a good decision either, because you may not be there to protect your child. And how can you be sure that there is going to be somebody to take care of your baby instead of you? For those who consider financial problems as “not a big deal” problem, I would say that you are wrong as well. If people cannot take care of themselves, then how are they going to take care of a newborn baby who requires attention, money and healthy environment? Then what about raped women? They are victims and they totally deserve the right to choose whether to give a birth or not. I am not trying to extenuate abortions, but trust me, women who do that will learn their lesson as well, because they will probably feel guilty till the rest of their lives. If a woman gets an abortion, it does not mean she stops having feelings. Women who get abortions are still human-beings.
I totally understand the feelings of those getting upset about abortions, but sometimes it is the only optimal choice for a woman. I, personally, know two females who got an abortion and I do respect their decisions, because they know better what they need. One of them was raped. So she was not able to handle it mentally. Another one just got divorced. She was depressed and did not have any job, therefore, she did not have money to raise a child. None of them felt good after getting an abortion, but they also felt like they were not ready to become a mom. And they were lucky to be born in a country where abortion was legal. And there are a lot of women who do not have a chance to decide what is better for them. Overall, only 37% of the world’s 1.64 billion women of reproductive age live in countries where abortions are permitted without restriction.
We should be more aware of the reasons why women get abortions and why is it important to legalize it in every country. Please, do not be ignorant, because it is not a problem of only one woman. It may happen to you if you are a woman and if you are a man, it can happen to your wife or your daughter one day. Remember that abortion is not murder, it is an act of despair.
