Navigating Creativity Beyond the Ordinary: A Journey of Collaborative Expression

The power of collaboration has long been recognized as a means to weave together diverse perspectives and amplify unique voices. When authors come together to contribute to a collective work, they share their individual stories and create something greater for the readers to experience.

Such is the case with Beyond the Ordinary — Navigating the Creative and Neurodivergent Mind, a groundbreaking book collaboration that unites a group of remarkable women under the visionary leadership of Creative Genius Consultant Mandy Nicholson.

Collaborative writing projects like this one are more than just a collection of chapters; they are a tapestry of ideas, experiences, and insights that resonate on a deeply personal level. Each co-author brings her distinct voice to the table, offering readers a multifaceted exploration of creativity through neurodivergence.

For many neurodivergent creatives, the journey to harnessing their full potential can be empowering and challenging. The unique wiring of their minds often leads to extraordinary bursts of creativity, but it can also present obstacles that require innovative solutions.

Beyond the Ordinary not only celebrates the strengths of these women but also shines a light on their resilience and determination to navigate a world that often misunderstands or undervalues their contributions.

Under Mandy Nicholson’s inspiring guidance, this book becomes a beacon for those who have ever felt “different” or struggled to fit into conventional molds. It offers a safe space for readers and writers to explore the boundless possibilities that arise when creativity is embraced in all its diverse forms.

As these women share their stories, they invite us into their worlds — worlds where creativity flourishes not despite neurodivergence but because of it. Through their words, we are reminded that true innovation often comes from those who dare to think beyond the ordinary.

Being an author is exciting! How has your journey been in becoming an author?

Just over 25 years ago I found myself on the corporate treadmill, feeling overwhelmed and stressed, trying to manage a high-powered role. Having suffered from two devastating miscarriages I went on to have two amazing, children each with their own individual challenges such as dyspraxia, dyslexia and autism.

It was during this highly challenging time that I discovered holistic therapies and almost instantly felt a sense of calm and the return of my purpose and direction. With this renewed purpose, I realized that I wanted to create a space where I could share these wonderful therapies.

In creating Natural Transformation, I developed a whole toolkit of methods you can trust to use whenever you need it. I guide you along your path, helping you to learn that you can walk independently, confidently, and freely to your destination.

I have been awarded three awards in 2023- Global Business Awards Best Transformational Therapist — West Yorkshire 2023, Corporate Livewire Prestige Award — Best Holistic Therapist 2023 — West Yorkshire, and the Best Holistic Trainer 2023 which is so wonderful to be acknowledged for the therapies and training where I provide in such a tranquil healing lodge.

My Reiki 1 training really was the beginning of myself opening the channel for spiritual connection, self-healing, and energy alignment that felt part of who I was always meant to be. However, working as an on-site therapist for a large corporation I did not feel that was an appropriate environment to discuss spirit talking to me especially when staff came for treatments.

I soon learned that some people were very open to this and looked forward to my unique communication, especially coming for Reiki and Reflexology. I then went on to train in Reiki 2, Reiki 3 Master, Seichem 1,2,3, Egyptian Cartouche therapy and mastership, crystal, EFT, and clinical hypnotherapy.

Through my training and connecting with spiritual mentors, I learned how to calm my mind and connect with spirit guides and found this a very positive experience and one that helped to increase my ability and feel guided to help and support others.

During a visit to Canada, I experienced a Spiritual awakening and was given information from a passed loved one to create and develop Natural Transformation Therapy- Soul Synergy Experience.

I am being pushed to get this wonderful therapy out into the world, into the universe, and to be used for healing. I train people in this great therapy and personally have seen people have light bulb moment and negative energy shifting away from them and uplifting positive emotions and energy increasing.

What inspired you to contribute to this book, and how does your chapter reflect your journey?

My connection to spirit came around 8 years old when I saw a photo of my great grandma Nellie moving on my mum and dad’s window sill a good couple of inches and in all honestly it completely freaked me out.

I ran out to tell my brother who was babysitting me at the time, who did not believe me when I said, “I do not wish to see it.” This is true I do not, but spirit who wishes to work with you finds a way.

My love of music and dancing connects me through songs in my head relevant to the person I am near. When the song is provided in detail, it means something really personal to that individual and possibly no one or not many knew. I am also clairsentient, so I strongly connect through sensing their energy and individual characteristics and providing the message that spirit clearly and dearly wishes to provide.

Despite my initial fear of my clairsentience abilities, the spirit found ways to connect with me, primarily through music and nature. Creativity and dancing were my outlets, helping me navigate my emotions.

Emotional intelligence became a concept I embraced during my teaching degree, making perfect sense to me. It allowed me to understand and channel my feelings into productive and healing activities.

As a child, I often felt overwhelmed by noise and energy, retreating into my imagination for solace. I learned to navigate life by fostering peace and cooperation, a trait that became especially useful during childhood and beyond. When I met Justin, his eyes danced with mine, speaking a language beyond words — a soul alignment that resonated deeply with my own. This connection was something I had always yearned for, and finding it felt like coming home.

Coming from a line of five generations of women in my family who can intuitively connect with spirit, I am the first to train people in energy therapies and how to connect with spirit and my mum loves that I do. It is time for Natural transformation — Soul Synergy Experience to be talked about and brought out into the wider context to help and guide other Women to release what is no longer needed energies and to step into their beautiful light and empower themselves to truly be who they wish to be.

Diana Tyson, Founder of Natural Transformation

Becoming an author takes a lot of creative focus. How did you overcome the challenges of the “writer’s block”?

I just allowed the words to flow and knew that had the support of Mandy as my Neuro Diverse Dyslexia makes me overwhelmed with writing. Her advice was to get it all down, we will look at it, get the flow going, and know that you can do this; that massively helped me to find that confidence and say yes this is the time to be heard.

Can you share a moment when your neurodivergence suddenly fueled your creativity?

Absolutely my newly developed and created Natural Transformation Therapy — Soul Synergy Experience allows my intuitive connection to energy and spirit as I am clairsentient, so I can sense when energy is not balanced where the chakras need to be worked on and how to guide and support that person to let go of negative emotions and energy that are weighing them down. I can scan peoples’ energy and allow my energy healing to provide transformation of the challenges they are facing to arrive at solutions while the person very centered by the therapist

In what ways has your neurodivergence shaped your perspective on the world, and how does that influence your writing?

I write in a very visual way and that is how I teach Reiki, Seichem, and all the training I provide, being neurodivergent has increased my emotional intelligence and I believe in Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence theory in teaching and in my experience as a therapist,

Diana Tyson, Co-Author of Beyond the Ordinary with Mandy Nicholson

What role does self-care play in your creative process, and how do you ensure you’re taking care of both your mind and creativity?

My self-care is simple and includes wild swimming, Reiki Healing, reiki share circles, and having regular therapy walking in nature every day with my husky.

What role does intuition play in your creative process, and how do you trust your instincts when developing new ideas?

My intuition is used every day in everything I do, and my writing helps me to journal, plan to organize my thoughts, and create spiritual poetry.

Writing is a fantastic way to creatively express and share your story. How has becoming an author empowered you?

It has given me the confidence to know that my words and my voice need to be heard and that’s so very important to me as many times in my life I’ve shied away and not wanted to talk about my story for fear of being judged for being too spiritual,

What strategies do you use to tap into your most authentic and uninhibited creative self?

These strategies although not common help me to tap into my truest self:

· Meditation

· Hypnotherapy

· Reiki share circles created

· My own holistic therapy provides an intuitive connection to spirit circles

How has your understanding of your own neurodivergence changed over time, and how has that growth impacted your creative expression?

Yes, I have 2 neuro Diverse kids, and learning to create coping strategies for their challenges and using my range of holistic therapies and talking therapies has enabled me to provide guidance and support and also helps me to know how to help others along with myself.

How has Mandy Nicholson’s vision for this project inspired or influenced your contribution to the book?

Absolutely, the fact Mandy is Neurodiverse, creative, author, and artist is a massive inspiration. She is so down to Earth and approachable

In what ways has Mandy’s leadership and approach to creativity and neurodivergence resonated with you, and how has it impacted your own creative process?

100% inspired and created a fire to help me be the best version of Me.

What do you hope readers will take away from your chapter, particularly those who may not be familiar with neurodivergent experiences?

Hope, honesty, and understanding they are not alone and can achieve anything they wish to achieve

Thank you for this amazing interview. One last question, looking ahead, how do you see your neurodivergence continuing to influence your creative journey, and what’s next for you?

To help more neuro-diverse kids, parents, and particularly teenagers who are navigating through so many things and just wish to balance and find their creative insight and flow.
