History Of Blood Donar Day…! Every year on June 14, the World Health Organization (WHO) commemorates World Blood Donor Day.
Every year, this day is observed to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and to recognise the contributions of unpaid volunteer blood donors in saving lives.

World Blood Donor Day 2021

The Origins of World Blood Donor Day WHO observed the first World Blood Donor Day in 2004 and declared it an annual global event at the 58th World Health Assembly in 2005.

The day commemorates the birth anniversary of Karl Landsteiner, an Austrian biologist and physician.

World Day for Donors of Blood Its aim is to raise the international awareness of the need for safe transfusion blood and blood products and of the crucial contribution made to the national health systems by voluntary unpaid blood donors.

The day also gives the government and national health authorities the opportunity to take action to provide adequate resources and to implement systems and infrastructure for increasing blood collection from voluntary, unremunerated blood donors.
