Hafez Poem — آن سیه چرده که شیرینی عالم با اوسـت
This poem by Hafez, a master of Persian poetry, celebrates love and its transcendental qualities. It describes a beloved whose beauty and virtues eclipse even the grandeur of kings, likening her to the biblical Queen of Sheba with Solomon’s ring. Hafez weaves spiritual symbolism with earthly love, suggesting the beloved’s beauty is so divine it could tempt even prophets.
Hafez’s longing is palpable as he laments his wounded heart left behind by his departing beloved. He concludes by acknowledging his faith in divine grace, hinting that the beloved’s mercy is akin to the forgiving spirit of high souls.

2) Meaning of Poem in English
In this ghazal, Hafez celebrates the allure and power of his beloved, using rich metaphors and historical references. The beloved’s beauty and charm are likened to the sweetness of the world, and her influence is compared to that of Solomon, a symbol of wisdom and power. The reference to Solomon’s ring alludes to control and authority, suggesting the beloved’s commanding presence.
Hafez touches on themes of unrequited love and longing, as he speaks of his beloved’s decision to leave, leaving him with a wounded heart. The poet feels helpless in the face of his love’s departure, indicating the depth of his emotional attachment.
The poem also delves into the complexities of human relationships, contrasting the beloved’s powerful presence with her indifference to the poet’s suffering. Hafez uses the metaphor of a black mole on a wheat-colored cheek to symbolize beauty that causes temptation and downfall, referencing the story of Adam.
