LaVonda N. Reed Named First Woman Dean at Baltimore Law
The University of Baltimore School of Law named LaVonda N. Reed its first female dean after almost a century. Reed, currently at Georgia State University College of Law, will start on July 1. She graduated from USC Gould School of Law and previously clerked at the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Reed began her legal career in 2001 after working at Paul Hastings. She taught at Louisville for five years and Syracuse for 15 before becoming dean at Georgia State in 2021. Her expertise lies in wills, trusts, property, and communications regulatory law and policy.
In her statement, Reed expressed excitement about her new role at Baltimore Law, especially as the university marks its centennial. She praised the school’s commitment to teaching excellence, impactful research, and service to the legal community.
Dean Reed looks forward to supporting the school’s mission of providing affordable education and engaging the law school community. Her values align with this goal, and she’s honored to return to Maryland for this opportunity. Congratulations to Dean Reed on her appointment!
