Roscoe Jones as the First Black Dean at Drake Law School

Drake University has a new Dean for its Law School, Roscoe Jones, Jr., starting July 1, 2024. He’s the first Black dean at Drake, coming from a law firm in Washington, D.C. He’s known for his law and public policy work.

Jones is well-known and respected in law. He’s been a top lawyer in America and is experienced in dealing with government issues. He’s known for his work in civil and human rights.

Jones has worked in important roles in the U.S. government. He’s been a Chief of Staff and Senior Counsel for different U.S. Senators and committees. He’s also worked in the U.S. Department of Justice.

Jones has helped teach law at many universities. He’s been part of groups that focus on law and civil rights. He’s excited to be the new Dean at Drake Law School, focusing on justice and ethics.

Jones replaces Dean Jerry Anderson, who’s been the dean for eight years. Anderson will go back to teaching law at Drake. Jones plans to continue and expand on Anderson’s good work.
