In late 2023, Dr. Stephen Williams made history as the first president of the Black American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Since taking office on October 30, Williams has aimed to modernize society, introducing new technologies to help surgeons and expand its influence.

Williams is focused on making society more inclusive and quicker to respond to members’ needs. He’s planning to use technology to better support surgeons and connect with related organizations, aiming to serve a wider, more varied audience.

Hawa Ba, a registered travel nurse, praised Williams for showing what minorities can achieve in healthcare. Williams, a Dartmouth and Yale graduate, is recognized for breaking barriers and striving for excellence in patient care for all backgrounds.

Williams sees his presidency as a milestone in his career and a step forward for African Americans. He acknowledges the legacy of those who paved the way for such achievements, expressing deep honor and responsibility in his role.

ASPS, the world’s largest group of board-certified plastic surgeons, plays a critical role. Ba emphasizes the importance of diversity in high medical positions to ensure fair treatment and address healthcare disparities among minority groups.
