Carol Occidental opened The Sweet Spot, a Filipino bakery in North Little Rock, six months ago. Despite passing it daily, it went unnoticed until recently. Inside, Filipino-inspired treats fill the pastry case, highlighting ube, a native purple yam.

Occidental, a former nurse from Laguna, Philippines, turned her passion for baking into a business venture. Assisted by her children, she transformed her love for baking into The Sweet Spot. Her kids’ involvement extends from the store’s name to its logo.

Since its opening in 2023, the bakery has thrived, primarily through walk-in customers. With her daughter managing the shop’s Instagram remotely, Occidental brings Filipino flavors to Arkansas. Traveling abroad, she honed her baking skills, enriching her offerings.

The bakery not only serves delicious treats but also fosters community connections. Occidental’s warmth and dedication shine through her pastries, aiming to bring smiles to her customers’ faces. As The Sweet Spot gains popularity, it becomes a cherished part of the neighborhood, offering a taste of Filipino culture in Arkansas.
