Hermeniculum Magazine appreciates submission of any article about the political and constitutional systems, or society in general, from points of view of constitutional law and theory, politics, economics, cultural studies, sociology, linguistics and other related disciplines. All articles has to be based on thoughtful argumentation and both the theoretical and empirical works are accepted, as long as they are written in a way accessible to general public. Articles concerning the scholarly work, research conduction or any other form of a science popularisation are also welcomed.

To submit an article (either draft or already published article), send friend or draft link to institut@hermeniculum.eu with ‘Submission: Title of Article’ as a subject.

Submission Requirements

First of all, any submission has to fulfil the requirements set up by Medium — Medium Rules, Medium Terms of Service. It is also highly recommended to read the Medium’s Curation Guidelines, as Hermeniculum Magazine evaluation standards mirror those included in the Guidelines.

We adhere to the policy of author’s autonomy, i.e. we not only respect that every author has her own style of writing, but we encourage every author to enhance it rather than to write by the template. It is up to the author to choose whether, for example, to write an article as a prose or poetry. However, there are still some standards we require every author to meet:

I. Each article should be of a minimum ‘3 minutes read’ (approximately 700 words) and include featured image of sufficient resolution and quality (ideally black & white to fit the Magazine’s graphic design).

II. Article has to be written for the reader, i.e. the general public, and therefore, among others lack of any jargon of possible.

III. We are currently accepting submissions in English or Czech only. As a general recommendation, we prefer articles written in English so they are accessible to a wider audience, however when English would constitute a substantive obstacle for the understanding of the topic by the general public (i.e. it is a topic understandable and interesting only to a Czech audience) or when the author prefers to write in Czech, we respect that.

IV. Author owns the rights to the article and therefore, may remove it from Hermeniculum Magazine in any time even after its publication. Consequently, author has to have the right to publish any content of the article and shoulder all the risks of plagiarism, intellectual property etc.

V. Title and subtitle of the article have to honesty represent the content of the article, i.e. clickbait titles nor subtitles are not permitted. Title has to be in title case and subtitles in sentence case (you can use this website if you are not sure about the case).

VI. Appropriate tags should be used. One of the tags has to describe the main discipline of the article. Author is advised to use the most general tag describing the particular field of study, e.g. Law, Politics, Sociology, Economics, Linguistics.

Submission Process

To submit an article, the friend or draft link should be send by e-mail to institut@hermeniculum.eu with ‘Submission: Title of Article’ as a subject. (Obviously, the ‘Title of Article’ should be replaced with actual title of submitted article.) Both draft and already published articles are acceptable as long as they are submitted through Medium (nor PDF, Word or any other format would be accepted).

We, obviously, can not guarantee acceptance of every submission, however, we shall reply to every submission within 1–10 business days. If accepted, the author will be added as a contributor to Hermeniculum Magazine and notified by e-mail. Authors already added as contributors don’t have to submit their articles by e-mail for future submissions but add their articles directly through the Medium.

Hermeniculum Magazine’s editorial team will never edit the text of the submission (including the proofreading). All the request for adjustments of the submitted articles from the editorial team will be discussed directly with the author and it will be strictly the author’s decision to include them or not. The editorial team will perform only minor formatting if necessary (e.g. editing of the title case).

For those who are new to Medium or to submitting an article through it, please see Medium Guidelines on the matter.

If you have any inquiries about the submission process, please, contact us at institut@hermeniculum.eu.
