Mavia is officially launching its DAO governance system, enabling holders to both propose and vote on ecosystem changes and proposals.

The Heroes of Mavia community is self-governed through the Mavia DAO, a decentralized governance structure that underlies the Ecosystem Fund and game development. This DAO adopts a proposal mechanism for voting on the distribution strategies of the Ecosystem Fund by the Mavia Foundation, aimed at nurturing a diverse and self-reliant ecosystem.

This article will go over the basics of the DAO Governance. A more comprehensive documentation for the DAO processes, voting and governance will be published on the Mavia Docs website.

The Mavia DAO represents a pivotal moment for our community, ushering in an era of inclusivity, empowerment, and collaborative decision-making. Through the launch of our DAO, we are uniting MAVIA token holders, granting them a concrete voice in the trajectory of Mavia’s ecosystem.

The Mavia DAO fosters an environment where individuals can make substantive contributions, fostering collaboration, driving innovation, and cultivating a shared sense of purpose.

Our Core Values

  • Innovation: We champion innovation, constantly seeking fresh ideas and pioneering solutions to drive progress within our ecosystem.
  • Transparency: We believe in open communication and transparency, ensuring everyone is informed and empowered to participate.
  • Impactfulness: We focus on creating meaningful outcomes that benefit our community and leave a lasting impression.
  • Distinctiveness: Mavia celebrates uniqueness, embracing diverse perspectives and contributions that enrich our community and foster creativity.
  • Unity: We value collaboration and inclusivity, recognizing our collective strength in working together towards common goals.
  • Agility: We adapt quickly to change, staying responsive to new opportunities and challenges in the dynamic Web3 landscape.

Mavia cultivates an environment of dynamic creativity and collaborative spirit, empowering all participants to shape the future of our ecosystem, game and community.

Participating in the submission of proposals, proposal discussing and voting is exclusive to Mavia DAO members. To be a member of the DAO, you must hold at least 1 $MAVIA token.

All proposals are referred to as MIPs (Mavia Improvement Proposal). Mavia’s official Discord is used for proposal creation and discussion, while Snapshot is used for voting.

Proposal Process:

Any member of the DAO can create a proposal. All proposals go through the same process, from ideation to implementation, rejection or resubmission.

1 - Ideation:

A proposed MIP Idea is submitted as a thread in Discord and must be confirmed by moderators to align with DAO-approved guidelines before being made visible to the community. The individual or group submitting the MIP Idea will be designated as the author(s).

2 - Discussion:

The MIP Idea undergoes an informal comment gathering phase on Discord for a duration of seven days. The author is not permitted to edit the original post; any proposed changes must be communicated through comments.

Mavia DAO members are able to discuss the proposal on the Discord thread and debate the benefits of the proposal, and suggesting changes to the proposal if needed.

3 - Review:

A specialized team will assess every proposal that progresses to this stage, comprising representatives from legal, development, and marketing departments. This team’s objective is to produce an MIP Analysis Report, which scrutinizes factors such as expenses, execution procedures, legal consequences, requirements for third-party review, possible conflicts of interest, and other relevant considerations.

It is important to recognize that although many proposals may seem ambitious and promising, each MIP requires careful consideration of various factors such as marketing, legalities, financial aspects, and technical requirements to guarantee feasibility.

4 - Voting

Once MIPs have successfully completed their individual approval processes, they will transition into Live MIPs on Snapshot during the subsequent monthly MIP Release. New MIPs will be introduced in batches on the first Friday of each month. Upon becoming live on Snapshot, these MIPs are available to vote until the conclusion of the 14-day voting period.

Remember, 1 MAVIA = 1 vote on Snapshot. There is no gas cost associated with voting. All votes are public and can be seen by anyone.

Posting MIPs on Snapshot is reserved for moderators, as they are tasked with confirming that each MIP has undergone the appropriate approval process.

5 - Finalization:

If a Live MIP receives no votes or is tied at the Voting Close Time, it will be labeled as “Paused” and can be resubmitted by the author. Otherwise, Live MIPs are categorized as either Rejected MIPs or Accepted MIPs. Rejected MIPs can be resubmitted using the designated Resubmission Template, provided the author reaches out to a moderator. Accepted MIPs proceed to the Implementation phase.

6 - Implementation:

For Accepted Final MIPs, implementation will begin based on the steps outlined in the MIP proposal. The project management team assigned by the Mavia DAO is responsible for delegating the implementation of the proposal to the appropriate divison/team, and following up on their progress of implementation.

Updates regarding the progress and implementation of proposals will be provided on Discord in the governance channel.

There are currently four category types for proposals. Additional categories can be added through a “process change” proposal.

Proposal Categories:

  • Gameplay Improvements: Proposals for adding new game features, modifying fundamental functionality and other game-related matters.
  • Ecosystem Fund Allocation: Proposals for how the Ecosystem fund should be allocated/utilized.
  • Brand Decision: Proposals for initiatives, projects, or partnerships affiliated with the DAO or Mavia IP.
  • Process Changes: Proposals for modifying a procedure or executing a change in implementation.

Proposals that are being resubmitted must be classified as such during the submission process, referring to the old proposal which did not pass.

Mavia DAO will be using Snapshot as our voting tool, as it is gas-free, extremely user friendly and trusted by some of the largest DAOs in Web3.

Go to https://snapshot.org/ to see Mavia’s Snapshot page.

For a guide on how to use Snapshot, you can watch the overview below:

Snapshot.org allows every holder of MAVIA token to participate in DAO governance, completely gas-free.

The Voting Process:

  1. Moderators post MIPs to Snapshot after ensuring that each one has gone through the correct approvals process. New MIPs are posted on the first Fridays of each month. This is also when the 14 day voting window opens.
  2. DAO members vote on Snapshot. One Mavia coin is equal to one vote. As votes cannot be divided into fractions and the total number of votes shouldn’t ever exceed the number of tokens minted, the number of votes will be rounded down if a fractional number of tokens is owned by the voter (i.e., 100.1 tokens will result in 100 votes, and so will 100.9 tokens). The voting options for a Live MIP are “In favor,” “Against,” and “Abstain. Voting “In favor” means the voter is in favor of implementing the MIP exactly as-is. Voting “Against” means the vote is against implementing the MIP exactly as-is — you may vote “Against” to encourage the author to resubmit the MIP after making changes. Voting “Abstain” means a voter may participate in a proposal without voting “In favor” or “Against.” Abstentions do not affect the outcome of the vote.
  3. The voting for each proposal will be open for 14 days.
  4. Proposals that receive a majority “In favor” vote are moved into implementation. Proposals that are rejected will have the chance to be resubmitted via the appropriate Resubmission Template if the author contacts a moderator to initiate this process. If by the Vote Close Time the Live MIP has not gotten any votes or is tied, it will be tagged as “Stalled” and be eligible for Resubmission.

The Mavia DAO is a flexible organization, allowing for the addition and replacement of members, administrators, and council members as needed.

Regular votes are held throughout the year to elect board members responsible for managing DAO proposals and aligning with the community’s vision.

Proposals that directly conflict with existing ones are subject to a three-month waiting period after the initial proposal’s implementation to prevent resource duplication.

Proposals involving illegal activity, hate speech, pornography, or contradicting the mission or values of the Mavia Foundation are ineligible for voting consideration.

All DAO members are expected to maintain a respectful and professional demeanor during discussions of proposals and when engaging in debates on the Discord platform, fostering constructive dialogue and mutual understanding. Extremely disruptive or destructive styles of chatting may result in a warning (Discord’s Timeout feature) or a ban from the Mavia Discord.

ABOUT MAVIA

Heroes of Mavia is a mobile free-to-play Web3 MMO Strategy game developed by Skrice Studios, and governed by the Mavia DAO.

The game takes place in a fantasy-themed island called Mavia, where players build bases on plots of land and battle neighboring bases and armies to earn in-game resources, such as Gold, Oil and Ruby. Players must strategically place defensive buildings on their base such as walls, turrets and traps, in order to defend against opportunistic attackers looking to steal resources.

Resources can also be stolen from rival bases through attacking opponents with land troops, vehicle and air units. Ruby is earned through battling enemy armies, and can be used to upgrade Land, Statue and Hero NFTs.
