Indian Television
The general rule for Indian soap operas is that the worst things are allowed to happen only to the good-est, most virtuous of families. Families that do not acquire murderous intentions during long road trips and families that do not fight over the remote. They instead take into account what everyone wants for dinner and invest in only the best mutual funds. Happiness has been a part of this family for an eternity- up until the entry of the Evil Element.
The Evil Element arrives in style. Accompanied by thundering music and a slow motion ride, he or she will be clouded in dramatic dust. We will observe as one foot emerges from the auto rickshaw, enclosed in black footwear. The Evil Element, in case you were oblivious to all tangible signs of menace, will always be enshrouded in black. Truly, there exists no worse omen than the color black.
The menace will infiltrate your lovely home. Being the epitome of hospitality, the family will welcome he/she with open arms and an all-access pass to their precious jewelry/house keys/edibles that can be poisoned. Of course, sooner or later the more cunning of the family members will spot the danger and spend months, if not years, trying to convince others there is a mole in the house.
Inevitably, car chases and kidnappings will follow. There will be intense action, all accompanied with thunder-and-lightning sound effects, unless its raining. The rains are reserved solely for the romance side-plot. Weirdly enough there will be two-year-long pregnancies that will restore temporary joy in the family. Until the Evil Element steals the baby and runs away, of course.
