He said: Today’s fun date is Lunch & The City. Pick any city of your choice that’s fairly easy to get to. Let’s use New York City for example.

First, you find a local place to eat that either you have been to or would like to go to. Then, you purchase a couple of bus tickets to your chosen city. Megabus is a great option and a ticket from Philly to NYC can be as low as $12 per person.

You want to head out in the morning so that you get there around lunch time. You’re too far away to just walk into a spot so make sure to RSVP.

Try to pick a place that has an area to eat outside, which would make this date even better. Nothing like good food, drinks, conversation and sunshine.

After lunch, you can take a stroll with your date. If NYC is your location, I’d recommend having lunch in Manhattan or maybe close to Central Park.

A stroll on a nice day is a perfect time to chat and get to know each other better — add a little sightseeing or maybe some shopping. You can end the trip with a few drinks before you head home on the bus.

After a great day, you guys may actually even snuggle up on the ride home, which can bring you even closer and allow you to become more comfortable with each other. Hope you guys give it a shot and enjoy your weekend!!!

She Said: This week’s fun date idea is go to a Poetry Slam. I LOVE, LOVE spoken word and poetry.

My favorite Poetry Slam spot is the Nuyorican Poets Cafe in NYC. Every Wednesday it has an open Poetry Slam hosted by Jive Poetic. The price for tickets at the Cafe is $10 per person. If you live in a city or near one, I am sure you can find a local spot that offers spoken word.

It is a very laid-back atmosphere so you can dress up or wear jeans. You and your date will get to experience performances from rising artists and musicians who have raw talent and represent Black or Latino cultures.

I love this venue because it offers different entertainment options that range from jazz, hip-hop, poetry, theater and spoken word. All you have to do is pick a day for you date, then check the Cafe’s weekly calendar to see what is offered that day.

I consider this to be an effortless date since all you have to do is agree on a day and get dress. You can drive to your nearest PATH train station in NYC or New Jersey.

A one-way PATH train ticket will cost $2.75 per person. Since parking costs are very high in NYC (about $30 at a local garage), I recommend you take a train to the Cafe.

This idea is great for an anniversary, fourth date or birthday. It gives you a chance to explore the NYC area. Plus, there are so many affordable restaurants nearby that you can either grab something to eat at a neighborhood spot or a food truck on your way home.
