Ephemeral Love

I don’t want our love to last forever.
I want the love which wanders
In midnight city streets.
And vanishes
when the sun kisses her feet.

I will be a brick housewife one morn.
So let’s fill tonight with tents and adorn
Our hearth with fairy lights.
Whispering shameless poetry
As we give ourselves over to the night.

Let our love be fleeting.
Let’s fall in love with lightening.
And dissolve into laughter
Over absurd jokes
We won’t remember.

Everlasting and immortal
Sound Heavenly, but actual
Centuries can be quiet pale.
We can’t have constellations in our name
But fireworks; we can tame.

It’s a great shame, oh it’s a pity.
With you, I wasn’t granted eternity.
So Be silent. Quicken your pace
Let us steal from time
And live years in days.

Let’s roam the world in an old stuffy car.
Scrounge the seas and battle the stars.
Then you can go to your home on time.
To your life.
And I can go back to mine.
