With Self Service, the Hexagon UX TO community tended to the gardens of their minds and learned of tools they can use to help them be the best versions of themselves in the coming year. Led by Catie Fenn — soul coach, lawyer and queen of positive vibes — The Hexagon community were guided through meditation exercises releasing their inhibitions and welcomed awareness to their mind and body.
“‘Restore connection’ is not just for devices, it is for people too. If we cannot disconnect, we cannot lead.”
We don’t spend nearly enough time reflecting on everything that has unfolded in the year and all that we have overcome. By taking the time for ourselves to do so, we begin to appreciate our ability to persevere through our biggest challenges.
Through the Goddess Circle, Fenn introduced a powerful way for Hexagon members to recognize and own professional and personal achievements from the year. Attendees were guided to look into themselves for validation instead of outside of themselves. By doing this, each person felt a real sense of pride and joy in their successes and the leg work it took to accomplish them.
Members also practiced vulnerability and openness by sharing their biggest accomplishments in a small groups. This fostered a sense of community, mutual support and love. With activities like the Goddess Circle, we are brought awareness and presence, allowing us to see the bigger picture and in turn, find ourselves in better positions to lead.
As days in the year fly by, it can be easy to take for granted all the growth we’ve gone through. By taking time to ourselves to reflect on the happenings of life, we give ourselves the headspace to feel refreshed, rejuvenated and ready to tackle what’s next.
Try it out — Reflect on the things you’ve accomplished this year and write down the things you’re most proud of.
Another method self-care strategy that helps foster the right type of energy for self-growth are intentions. Intentions are uniquely rooted in a feeling you intend to experience rather a specific outcome.
If you use an outcome-specific goal such as ‘I want to go to the gym three times a week next year’ and compare it with an intention such as ‘I want to feel vibrant next year’, you can more freely lead a life that aligns with the energy you are trying to cultivate.
As you come back to your intentions through the year, clarity comes back to each of us. By giving yourself enough space to focus on your intentions, you’ll achieve your intentions, even if you don’t know exactly what each next step might look like.
“When we give ourselves space, our own intuitive knowledge and wisdom can come forward about what we need to do. All of us have all the answers within us.”
Try it out —Declare three intentions for 2019 and when opportunities arise, ask yourself, “Will spending my time this way align with the intentions I set?”.
BONUS: Keep yourself accountable. Set up monthly reminders of your intentions to stay on track to achieving your biggest dreams.
What’s Your Self-Care Ritual?
As Hexagon members learned at Self Service, exercising self-care, whether it be through the practice of meditation or another activity such as taking a walk, can help you feel refreshed, maintain balance, and gain clarity into the events of your own life.
It may feel unnatural to pause for a second, take a deep, cleansing breath to restore the connection to ourselves, but the benefits of doing so become apparent as soon as you start.
Try it out—If you notice you’re feeling out of sync with yourself, try some of our community’s favourite self-care strategies:
1. Spend some time in nature
2. List what you like about yourself
3. Read a good book
4. Attend a yoga class
5. Take a long, hot bath (or sing in the shower!)
6. Take care of a few small tasks
7. Play with a pet
8. Talk to friends or family face-to-face
9. Listen to music
10. Do something spontaneous
Add to our list of self-care strategies and share with us your favourites in the discussion section below! We hope you have a great start to the new year.
