Tips, guidelines, and process to publish your story with us.

About us

Hexagon is a global community comprising of chapters around the world. We work to empower women and non-binary folks in UX to bring their whole selves to work, balance the ratio in the industry, and effect change while fostering personal and professional growth. Our Medium publication welcomes a variety of content, sparking inspiration and examining industry trends through the lens of inclusivity.

What we’re looking for

  • Articles on user experience, design, writing, communication and technology that strike a balance between informative and friendly, We’re looking for pieces backed by research that are engaging and accessible to readers of different backgrounds. Not everyone in UX is a designer, for example.
  • Stories covering community, mentorship, and women and non-binary folks in UX are especially welcome.
  • We love how to-guides, “Best of” roundups and advice-driven op-ed pieces, but these should be supported by quotes from experts or reliable research from the field. Use the first-person voice cautiously, making sure that you aren’t the only expert speaking in your story. Avoid hyperbole.
  • We don’t allow submissions with an overabundance of self-promotional links, or pieces whose sole intent is to sell or promote a product (a book, blog, service, or tool)
  • See our editorial guidelines for feature types, and notes on voice and style

Note: Involvement in writing for Hexagon UX’s Medium publication requires you to have a Medium account.

Style Guide Tips

  • For headings, use Medium’s heading styles (big T, little T). Don’t just capitalize the words and bold them.
  • Use Medium’s official list styles and styling guidelines. That means don’t style something as a quote unless it’s actually a quote.
  • All submissions must be in English and free of grammar, spelling, or language issues.
  • All articles must include a lead image. This image, and any other art included, must be something you have the legal right to publish. Include a properly cited source as the image caption. Stock photos are acceptable. Our editors may add or replace images for your submission.
