The Bold Type is one of these shows that you watch to warm your heart and feed your spirit with good energy. Every time I watch it, I end up feeling more determined and strong, so I love enjoying it after a hard day or when I feel like I’m losing sight of my goals.

The show portraits three independent women who have a lot of differences but are connected by their boldness and their eagerness to get what they want. They work at a fashion magazine in NYC, they’re young, and they’re fighting their way to achieving career goals while balancing their personal lives. They have different goals, different backgrounds, and different personalities but they are always there for each other, whether it is to support and have one another’s backs through their stumbles and falls or to celebrate their victories and conquers.

Besides the sorority lesson that this show presents in each episode (which is a very welcome gift), it also makes you rethink a lot of tabus and “uncomfortable” topics through the different perspectives of each character. One of them is figuring out her sexuality and the conflicts of being successful at a very young age; one of them is fighting to reach the career path she always dreamed with and handling a secret relationship with an older man who holds a powerful position and the fear of being labeled by that; one of them is working hard to prove herself as a writer and trying to process the possibility of having the cancer gene after watching her mother fight the disease. None of them knows the right answers to all questions, but they’re open to learning and trying to become the better version of themselves.

The nice thing is that all of these topics are approached in a very emphatic and lightweight way, without disregarding their importance and sensitivity they have. You feel connected to the girls and actually rethinks a lot of things you’re used to. You see three strong women who don’t have any need to tear each other apart to grow; they grow stronger when they advance together.

And these are the shows I like the most: they inspire you to be fierce and open-minded, they make you think and grow, but they also make you laugh, cry, and laugh while you cry.
