As outlined recently by Shopify Partner’s Blog, collaborations between App Partners have become an increasingly important strategy for continued growth in the Shopify Partner Eco-system. Such partnerships create a framework for success on all sides. Merchants get the benefit of enhanced interaction between third-party services, creating more easily navigated workflows between their increasing various services. Partners benefit from not only supporting a seamless user experience, but also shared leads, brand strengthening, and in many cases increased app installs.

By partnering with Kit, apps have a perfect opportunity to address pain points for merchants or their customers by providing proactive direction followed by automated solutions.

With a few simple text messages, Kit can reach out to a merchant to suggest an action to take for their store, and once given permission Kit can complete that action for the merchant. This low-touch mobile interaction means it’s possible to get merchant attention without requiring them to be in a dashboard, and they can interact no matter where they are or what time it is. True entrepreneurship knows no standard work schedule, so why should its tools or assistants?

Why Kit?

Kit was acquired by Shopify in 2016 in part for its perfect alignment with a large segment of Shopify’s merchant base and its dedication to helping merchants succeed. As a leading marketing app Kit has already helped drive an amazing amount of new leads to existing partners.

There’s also a clear correlation between Kit users with apps installed and decreased churn risk. This correlation likely comes from the fact that Kit users with 2 or more third Party Skills installed regularly show a higher than average — and very impressive — number of sales, ranging in the thousands per merchant. Kit’s Unique Offering

The human persona that Kit embodies provides a unique channel to merchants, since the remarkably high interaction rates come through trusted message systems like SMS and Facebook Messenger. Numerous studies have shown that interaction with text greatly outranks that of email.

Multiple studies show SMS achieves an alarmingly impressive ~98% open rate and click through rate (CTR)of 36% and just 1% spam rate. Email, in contrast, has open rates of ~22% with CTR or 4–6%.

But what does this all mean? As the average merchant uses more apps and sales channels year over year their workflows are getting increasingly complex. Through existing partnerships and countless conversations with other product teams we’ve found that most services don’t achieve their optimal benefit without regular user interaction. Kit Partners get the advantage of regularly pushing their product value directly to their merchant by the channel they invariably see and interact with, allowing them to focus less on feature awareness and more on delivering kickass functionality.

How Do I Start?

We’re looking for creative solutions to any user problem! We’re especially interested in apps that focus on merchant growth and integrations that can offer free or freemium services. All that’s needed to develop and test an integration is a Shopify store, a Facebook business page, and a Kit account (developer Kit accounts will be made free, just ask). Get Started here.

The key to a successful integration is by offering the merchant proactive suggestions and automating the execution of the task. Each point of integration is represented by a “conversation” that is triggered with a merchant through Kit. All conversations consist of a self-contained proposal that is automated/executed with a “yes” response from the merchant.

Merchants connect apps to Kit by installing both the app and Kit on their Shopify store, then completing a brief authorization to allow Kit access to the app.

Logic for triggering conversations to merchants resides with the 3rd party app — often in a nightly cron job that identifies merchants who qualify for the conversation which sends the conversation to Kit to put into the merchant’s message queue.
