From after-school workdays to class jam sessions, the Hi’s Eye Snapchat has it all. @hiseyenews gives our followers the inside scoop on everything the staff is doing to produce every Friday’s edition. Hi’s Eye is active on Instagram as well, posting everything from previews to an edition of the paper to major news stories that we want the school to know about right then and there. Hi’s Eye is also active on Twitter, posting previews of Friday’s paper as well and occasionally live-tweeting during specific events to get our readers communicating.
My name is Olivia Milford and I’m the Social Media Editor for Hi’s Eye. This year, we have dedicated an entire position to coordinating all of the social media associated with Hi’s Eye. It’s something that has become a part of our daily lives, so it only makes sense for your school newspaper to expand into social media. You have the ability to view the news right at your fingertips and even see behind the scenes. It’s a way for us to give our readers the news whenever it comes out.
Every teenager is on social media nowadays. It’s the first thing you look at when you wake up and the last thing you look at before you go to bed. Social media is quick and timely, so it’s easy for Hi’s Eye to put out news right when it happens and have people respond and react to it immediately. When people see our posts on social media, they may want to see what we have to offer in our paper. There is a wider range of people we can approach through social media as well.
I also will post news about our paper to readers. For example, on all of our social media platforms, we are promoting fundraisers we are holding at local restaurants. Through our posts on Snapchat, you also can see the staff through their eyes and what they experience on a typical workday. It’s our way of communicating with our readers at a more personal level and they can see the inside of Hi’s Eye.
We hope to gain readership from our presence on social media and continue the use of this wonderful tool.
