In A Matter Of A Moment

As I was rummaging through my old books I found an exceptional piece: a cut-out clothes book, starring John Dymond, born at Amesbury, on July 10, 1944. He’s better known as Beaky, a member of Dave Dee and his four lads, named Dozy, Mick & Tich and…this ominous Beaky.

In the little book Beaky is described as a calm boy, hating wedding ceremonies but loving Buffulo Springfield and classic music.
Let’s go back to the year 1969, a great period of pop music, DDBMT were on the peak of their success with a brilliant song called “The Legend Of Xanadu”, one of their two million sellers. The group produced a fine string of hits, which all had a commercial touch. The songs were written by Howard / Blaikley, an extremely successful British songwriter team.

Unfortunately, the DDBMT — studio albums never made it to the top. Perhaps “If no one sang” was the most ambitious album of the group. By the way, it contained an unusual song, compared to the band’s previous recordings. The fourth track “In A Matter Of A Moment” had a uniquely calm and shallow atmosphere and the voices were echoed. So, it differs in various ways from other DDBMT single versions. I always enjoy the song and sometimes I find myself humming the little tune.
The song always was part of the album and was not released as a single. In my view, the central idea is about the moment when you are in love with someone.

When they had adopted new musical styles, the interest of young people in the single productions of DDBMT gradually declined. So, Dave Dee left the group in order to work as a host of the German Beat Club, a successful television music show. The remaining four members continued as DBMT and, by the way, in those days they released an excellent and very unusual vocal production called “Tonight Today” , which continues to be a hot tip for musicians nowadays.

A few years ago, the leadsinger Dave Dee died, Dozy followed a few months ago, in January 2015. But I’m sure many people will remember the old hits of the band.
“In A Matter Of A Moment” has already disappeared from the stage of the music. Perhaps this message will help to revive the song. Unfortunately though, I’ don’t know what happened to Beaky.
