DoraHacks participated in satellite launch for the first time, officially started commercial space themed hackathons
On Dec. 7th at 12:12 am, DoraHacks, a global hacker community, successfully launched a microsat into orbit from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center (JSLC). The satellite, which was produced by Spacey, is equipped a DoraHacks SD card. A month later after the launch date, Spacey will download and read the data from the SD card. The ground receiving station will obtain the signals and conduct satellite data transmission experiments.
A Hacker Declaration from the founders of DoraHackers and its hackers, along with photos of founders, partners and staff, and memories shared with DoraHacks provided by the participating hackers from all over the world are saved on this SD card. DoraHacks COO Penny Wang, who was onsite at JSLC and watched the whole process, said: “DoraHacks will present the result of data reading and transmission experiment to the public as soon as they are available.”
The satellite launch has attracted great attention by the public. On 23rd November, the very day of its 4th year anniversary, DoraHacks published an article on its media platform to announce the satellite launch plan to hackers around the world. Also, hackers, who participated in the hackathons organized by DoraHacks, were invited to send in their personal hackathon stories.
On-site group photos, diaries, and comments were all gathered by DoraHacks and then uploaded to the SD card, which symbolized the “external brain” of DoraHacks.
By cooperating with Spacey, DoraHacks officially stepped into the field of commercial space for the first time.
As the most active hacker community and hackathon organizer, DoraHacks declared that its mission is “to connect hackers from all over the world in order to solve the most important and urgent problems“ with a focus on leading tech sectors. Since establishing in 2014, the community has organized every hackathon centered around leading-edge industries such as A.I., Dapp Gaming, Fintech and more. Jiannan Zhang, the founder of this community, announced the commercial space themed hackathon as the core plan of DoraHacks in 2019 during the 2018 WISE P. O. D. New Block Trend organized by 36 Kr x Odaily.
The satellite experiment is the very first step for DoraHacks in the commercial space industry. Afterward, Spacey will provide satellite bus services, including content changeable 30 bytes satellite radio etc., to let hackers use their creativity to design some more interesting and practical application scenarios. Hackers can also design new satellite functions based upon the present technologies offered by Spacey. Commercial space themed hackathon will be held for all hackers in the world. Great solutions will be lofted in the new satellite by Spacey to bring fresh ideas into the Chinese commercial space industry.
To design a satellite may seem like a remote dream, however, DoraHackers makes this dream come true for its hackers and the public. In the future, DoraHacks will continue representing and supporting hackers to express themselves and empower them to drive real change in this world.
