Starting a business has no best time. Experts suggest that the moment you come across a business idea, put it into reality! However, we can’t deny the fact that one needs to acquire a certain extent of knowledge before getting into the role of an entrepreneur. While starting too soon can be a daunting thought, many young minds have proven that milestones are achievable by starting early.

Here goes one such similar story of a college friends group that built one of the most successful startups from their hostel room conversations. We are talking about The Climber, an educational startup helping students to follow their passions, and build aspired careers. This young My Climber team has made education a fun-loving and passion-driven activity for all their students.

Want to know how they did this? Read on.

The Beginning

It was the time when Mohammed Zeeshan and his other friends from SRM University were having their usual conversations. The talks went from fluid mechanics to politics, economics, and even Sunny Leone, but the path-breaking idea emerged with the friends talking over their passions. They all realized that despite being interested in economics, writing, and other fields, they were studying engineering.

Zeeshan understood the problem of millions of students who forcibly choose conventional careers, and decided to launch a youth organization that will help youngsters to make informed career choices. Driving with this thought, Zeeshan borrowed Rs 60,000 from his parents and started his venture, The Climber in August 2013.

A Journey With Challenges

Starting as Inking Pages, an editorial magazine, the team used to conduct events at schools. With him were his co-founders- Sameer Ramesh, Ruhan Naqash, and Fatema Hussain, who joined the business. After understanding the challenges to scale, the firm pivoted the concept into a full-fledged mentoring platform known as MyCaptain in April 2015.

MyCaptain is an education mentoring platform where students participate in mentoring workshops around a specific topic of interest. The workshops are held for one month, providing insights into knowledge, career, internships, and everything about their aspired courses.

The astonishing fact is that every mentor in the My Captain team is less than 25 years of age. Explaining this, Zeeshan said in an interview that the young age connects the mentors with their mentees. Mentors include published authors, investors, award-winning filmmakers, designers, basically, young and inspiring individuals from many fields.

Talking about the challenges, the team, that started up in college, faced bankruptcy and debt, got out of it, and bootstrapped around 30 lakhs between 2015–2016. Apart from this, the team saw a revamp, but finally got incubated by NSRCEL. Even after facing many hurdles, the Climber has turned into a well-known name in the Learning and Development industry.

What Next From The Climber?

As of now, the firm has mentored 65000+ mentees with several success stories. The Climber also runs Indian Youth Conclave sessions and gets on board YouTube artists, TEDx speakers, entrepreneurs, and many other admiring personalities to interact with teenagers. The team has successfully conducted events in different cities of the country.

For future, It is planning to develop physical spaces where students can explore their interests and connect via the MyCaptain app.

All we can say is that starting from a hostel room to getting recognized by the United Nations as one of the top 50 led solutions in the world, The Climber team led by Captain Zeeshan’s vision is changing norms for education and careers.

We wish the Climber team the best for their future endeavours!
