We promised it’d be back and here it is! Following on from the huge success of last year’s Porsche NEXT OI Competition, we’re excited to announce Version 2.0, all set for launch at Mobility World Congress in Barcelona in February 2019. In keeping with last year’s contest, the NEXT OI Competition 2019 will be a place for teams and individuals to develop groundbreaking ideas and bring them into Porsche cars, redefining the future driving experience for Porsche customers.

Porsche will be particularly keen to see connected car apps that are specifically designed around real use cases in the mobility space — with the Porsche customer always at the centre of story. The winning apps will be those that solve real-world problems, shape the future and improve the driving experience. To help guide the design of your app, Porsche has suggested three distinct areas you should seek to address: Home, Driving & Arrival.

Do you and your team have an idea that fits the bill?

Using the HIGH MOBILITY platform, the competition gives you the chance to build and test your app using simulated Porsche sportscar APIs. You’ll have access to a wide range of tools, systems and platforms, designed to make the process as user-friendly and inclusive as possible. To ease you in, you’ll find the SDKs for iOS, Android and Node.js readily available in the developer platform once you sign up. If you’re using a different system, we’ve got the REST API that should fit all your needs.

Throughout the competition there will be experts on hand to give help and offer feedback and advice, so you’ll know exactly what you need to do to impress the judges as you develop, test and improve your innovative and industry-redefining application. The jury itself will consist of leading figures in the car industry as well as senior management at Porsche — who will be specifically looking for teams they can continue to work with in the future.

If your app is one of those chosen you’ll go through to the finals where you’ll be able to pitch your idea to the judges and be in with a chance of winning exclusive prizes as well as potentially the opportunity to work directly with Porsche on implementing your idea.

But that’s not all. As we mentioned briefly at the start, we didn’t want to make this year’s competition identical to the last one so you’ll notice that the concept is slightly different. We’d love to see applications which can take into account the three different phases of Home, Driving and Arrival and what a user’s needs might be at each stage of their journey. Of course, you can also simply build an app for one of the three elements if you’d like to. The most important thing is to keep in mind the Porsche customer: who that person is and what their needs might be.

Pre-registration is now open, so make sure you sign up now not to miss any further updates. The competition will go live at the end of February 2019 with the official launch at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona — we can’t wait!

We’ll have more information for you soon, but in the meantime, start thinking about your connected Porsche sportscar application that will redefine the user’s journey: Home — Driving — Arrival and don’t forget to register over on the competition homepage!
