Carlton Mackey and Noa Schmitz dive into Oasis programming and how it promotes mindfulness with art.

Art can be an access point for contemplative practice and mindfulness, and the High is exploring and embracing this through its Oasis program. Through movement, sound, art making and conversational activations, staff members connect art to different spiritual, religious, or contemplative practices while providing patrons with a different way to view the art and world around them.

Watch Carlton Mackey, Assistant Director of Education, Community Dialogue and Engagement, and Noa Schmitz, Education Department Office Coordinator, above in this month’s art story as they delve into Oasis, a Friday night program centered on presence, community and contemplation at the High Museum of Art.
