“To the Colored Waiting Room” by Marion Palfi: June Collection Highlight
By Nyaradzai Mahachi, Mellon Undergraduate Curatorial Fellow, High Museum of Art
As part of her work as a Mellon Curatorial Fellow in the African Art department, Nyaradzai Mahachi has curated a photography installation centered on the generation empowered during the civil rights movement. The selected photographs include images depicting children and feature photographs of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.; Myrlie Evers, a leading civil rights activist; and Mahalia Jackson, who is considered one of the most influential vocalists of the twentieth century.
In this month’s collection highlight, we take a look at one of the included photographs, Marion Palfi’s To the Colored Waiting Room, currently on view in the Stent Family Wing on the Skyway Level.
This is just one of more than eighteen thousand artworks in our collection, always here for you. Reserve tickets to the Museum today.
